Thanks for the tip. What shipping method did you choose to get the $18?

My shipping was more than that. $28 or so. Fedex 1-7 day was the least expensive.

Funny. I just ordered 80 grit from them about an hour ago. I was getting low and if I didn't, I was going to have to stop tumbling and I don't want to do that becauase I am kicking ass on rocks lately. Success is way above average.

Pretty sure if you talk to the kind Kingsley lady you will get your 50 pounds in a LFRB for $18. Albeit, a bit bloated.

I'm looking at an invoice from Kingsley for 45 pounds of #80 grit that I bought back in October...shipped in a LFRB for $16.70 (USPS has gone up a couple of dollars since then). As jamesp mentioned, the box was BULGING when it got here, actually was busted along one fold but the heavy-duty plastic bag contained the grit. Before I opened it I called Kingsley in case I had lost some grit...they said whatever was missing they'd replace. When I opened it the bag was intact so no issues. It is a HEAVY bag and as I recall a HD zip tie. BUT, it makes sense to me that finer grit will pack more densely than coarser grit. will the finer grit then weigh a noticeable bit more than the coarser grit and thus the coarser grit require a larger box to hold the same weight? It appears that the only grits being currently advertised on Kinsleynorth's website as coming in a LFRB are 80-grit and finer. What is interesting (and doesn't go along with my thought that coarser grit is less dense) is that #80 grit in a LFRB is listed as weighing 45 pounds whereas #600 grit is listed as weighing 40#...five pounds less.... Anyhow, I emailed Kingsley inquiring about LFRB of 30 and 46/70 grits. We'll see what they say.

USPS very liberal about allowing bulging FRB's. Can't remember if box was bulging. 10" X 10" X 10" box = 1000 cu in. LFRB 12" X 12" X 6"= 864 cu in. At an SiC density of 3.2 grams per cubic centimeter the 1000 cu in box should hold 115 pounds of SiC.
10" = 25.4 cm, so 25.4 X 25.4 X 25.4 = 16,387 cu cm X 3.2 grams/cu cm = 52438 Grams/454 grams per pound = 115 pounds LFRB = 30.4 cm X 30.4 cm X 15.2 cm = 14, 084 cu cm X 3.2 grams/cu cm = 45,069 grams/454 grams per pound = 99 pounds.
Calculation seems off. SiC does have a density of 3.1 to 3.2 grams/cm. i.e. heavy. Mistakes ?? Must have screwed up somewheres...
All I can remember was the gal at Kingsley saying they would ship it in a LFRB. And that this fact was not specified on their shipping menu when figuring cart. I did call them sucking up for a student discount most likely. Seems like the final charge was $88 + $18 = $106. Way cheaper than any SiC 30 I ever bought. As Ed mentioned, a bullet proof plastic bag. Some distributors charge some kind of hazardous material charge. Well, that is probably the reason Kingsley may not post the LFRB offering on their website. Same billing arrangement for 50 pounds of SiC 80 if memory serves.
Posted this back in October, funny it came to surface recently.

Just sayin'! They are not going to exist for while then. I am running a butt load of stuff through the rough stage and lately it has been working out great with rough in course grit in the big tumbler and two days rolling. I used to go a week like with the Thumlers, but then I went to 3 days and now I am doing 2 days and having great results with less chipping and other issues. Plus, for some reason the rocks are completing the first step with only one or two cycles. I even quit running the fine classifier to get back the course grit that didn't degrade, but there was never enough to fool with. Once I am satisfied that I have enough done, I will go to the next step. Maybe I will roll it, maybe I will vibe it. Never can tell.

I never thought to ask if they could cram the extra 5lbs in one. Still a very low $ per lb cost with the $28 shipping. Holy moley, look at this 80 grit price:

I got 50# of 46/70 from Kingsley about a month ago. Was quite surprised when they offered to ship USPS flat rate. Was also a bit dubious as last time I got two of their 80 grit specials and one arrived damaged and leaking. This time the box came undamaged. It was not exactly square as they really had to stuff that bag in there.

They must have changed from 50lbs to 45lbs since the last time I bought some,unless I'm entirely mistaken.Post office probably didn't appreciate the bulging flatraters,and they did bulge.
