Very cool project and they sure look great. Do you get much feedback from users of these? I did a few Montana agates in the vibe tumbler but I was told by someone I gave one to that the rounded over edges did not work great so I have been doing them on a flat lap since then.

Chuck I haven't sold in a few years. But I never really had any complaints except from scammers on Ebay trying to get free ones. Do you bevel the edges before tumbling? How long do you tumble for? I do 4 stages with graded grit. 2,2,2 and 3 days. I clean them everyday. They tend to attract each other, even if there are only 2 in the batch. They will find each other and stick together. I get a more even finish this way. I do not burnish them with borax. I add a few drops of dish soap every load. 1st 4 drops, 2nd 3, 3rd 2, and just one for polish. I find that soap helps them slid off one another easier.

Are you saying you run each stage at 2 days except polish you run 3 but you do a full clean out and put new grit and/or polish in each day? I like that new optical quartz one. I have a wire wrap I did on a piece of that stuff and I wont sell it because it is such a cool display piece. Chuck

This way I ensure that the picks get fresh grit on them everyday. I add them one by one after the grit is mixed up good. They really like to sick together and if the slurry drys out a little they cement together. When I used just ceramic, I would check the vibe to find 10 or more stuck to each other. It was a pain in the ass having to open my vibes every couple of hours to separate them. I did a lot of trial and error to get them to stop that. A lot of different medias. I found that flat media worked the best with a drop or two of dish soap added to help break the surface tension. Thanks for the kind replies everyone.

These alone make me wanna take up guitar!
How thick are they? Three turns of the crossfeed? How do you keep slabs from breaking when they part off the mother piece?
