Shelves are from junk Mason dog kennel panels. 22" X 72". Went with 6 shelves. 5 feet will be highest shelf. 12 inches betwixt each. Posts are 1 inch water pipe. All heavy. Finally putting all tumbles and metals in one spot. Pouching 22 X 72 gate panels from scrape Mason panels Layout and squaring to marks on floor Sticking shelves to posts, duh, missing a shelf 5 not = to 6

Welding is an obviously handy skill. Somehow, I missed that! The near by industrial district throws steel out like it is garbage. About 3 out of 4 times I ask to haul it off they say yes. Once you pile up a big stack your mind starts to figure up things to make out of it. Backward creation process ?

However, it has never been big pieces of iron.

However, it has never been big pieces of iron. Available materials design concept AMDC Pat. I made that up. I think my wife has had thoughts about making fertilizer of me after aggravating her. The relatively new term 'repurpose' is popular. Most folks like yourself and being an artisan have been doing that for years. Often times farmers or people living away from easy to access resources do the same thing. It is my favorite form of building/creating. it can be lawless and against tradition. mind twisting. And inexpensive. There is a saying in the welding biz, "there is no such thing as a piece of scrap iron". Repurposing the scraps from something you repurposed, and for several more cycles till nothing is left.

Cold and windy at noon. Getting psyched to finish shelf( 2 hours guessing). Intention is to move it to dungeon(basement) and load it with rocks and jewelry metals. Please send motivational photos(hard bodied cheerleaders, organized rock work areas, your shop, captbob's shop...)

Target space(dungeon) for shelf and jewelry work table.
In basement. With wood stove. Wife has not taken it over. Cleaned out this time two years ago. Waiting to see if wife takes it over. So far so good.
Just maybe I can hide here. Hoping.

My wife's work bench is better. This is the best I can do for organization :

Should make great rock storage. Open chain link will not collect dust and rock debris like full plywood shelving.

Chuck This is a bit tight between the shelves, targeting the rock trays like you used for clean outs Chuck. I hear you about the dust. The square footage storage received a calculation and compared to the load. Not much shelf exposed after all is loaded. Must admit they were here and paid for, so their unconventional assignment.

Only 4 shelves for the big stuff outside, and yes they consolidate well. Several low single shelf units for the wife unit's plants. Wheels on one side for moving around. Probably going to have to build more for her since I shipped her favorite dish rag as packing for rocks. James-NEVER EVER SHIP ANOTHER DISH RAG
