Thanks, had a good time collecting them with Intheswamp , broseph82 and his beautiful wife. Thanks for putting us on that spot Jimi. That place had deer stands in every direction.

Niiiicee, James!!!!! I gotta get myself up there and get some of them big cobbles. These rains are spacing themselves out just enough to keep the creeks over the bars. By the time the creeks start dropping here comes another storm. Ah well, I ain't to keen on hunting under the watch of those deer stands. My last trip up I decided to hunt further down the creek a piece from the deer stands...was a good idea as I heard a rifle shot from up that way...don't won't no hard feelings with deer hunters, 'specially since they totin' long guns. Those sure do look nice, though, James. Kinda depressing to me being as I did a clean out this evening and had lots of fractured rocks in there. I'm not sure when to call it quits on them or simply let'em grind into oblivion. Got a few nice ones, but more fractured ones than not fractured.<sign> Maybe try to salvage some by using a hammer and chisel??? A learning curve...

Nice stuff. That backlit one is killer color. Chuck Artificial light brings out richer color in them Chuck. A good bit of this quartzite lacks fractures and has translucence.

Intheswamp, was tired after breaking enough rocks to get a tumble jar full. Those don't come easy. And don't chip easy without fracturing them. Maybe one day you will find the vein that stuff is washing out of.

James, I hear you on the work you put into them...you were steady at it. Then, I turn around and you're gone, like a ghost. Now, folks, it wasn't that he was just sitting beside the creek cracking rocks. But after he got a load (remember, James "tumble jars" are a *bit* over 3 pounds<grin>) he loaded them into his kayak and then drug the load probably 200-300 yards...along the gravel bar, uphill from the creek, through the woods, and finally to his truck. When I got there he was sitting in his truck smoking a cigarette wondering what was taking me so long. Of course, James has upper arms the size of a 15-pound turkey, a chest about as wide as 55-gallon barrel, and wears 14-1/2 size shoes...don't mess with James, Jim Croce wrote a song about him years ago..."Bad, Bad Leroy somethin'ahnother". James, those rocks definitely show the potential. A question regarding the fractured rocks...can they be broken at the fractures and tumbled somewhat successfully? I'm kind of muddling along at the moment with the MP tumbler...I did not reload it last night as I'm pondering whether to throw the fractured stuff back in or not, whether to start with an entirely new load, maybe move away from the fractured quartz stuff that I've got and go with some of the sedimentary, opaque-looking stuff. Someone said garbage in/garbage out and that is true. I picked out some of the stuff that showed little to no fractures and little pitting...I may go ahead and try the Loto out with these. A lot of the stuff with fractures I don't think will ever amount to anything.

LOL Ed, you have a vivid imagination. Made it back and was exhausted. Downhill better than up. Jimi is the mule of that group.
Tumble away Ed. It is your first load. Better to get some practice before you put the real jewels in there.
About the only way to find nice tumbling material there is to bust those suckers open. About all of them are frosted on the surface from nature's poundings. Some can be seen through using light, Jimi was using his cell phone light. Lot of the smaller rocks were less frosted.

Nice tumbles......Lot of work collecting them,I see! Oh, I didn't even mention the blonde and the redhead that was sitting on the kayak as he drug it up the hill. It's a good thing they were sharing that purple dishtowel or there might've been a massive pile-up on the highway when they reached the truck!!!! I didn't know they made bathing suits that small!!!! James...I've gotta memory like an elephant, or is that an anteater, dang, can't remember which it is. Anyhow...yeah!!! Jimi the mule... A while back Tonya took a picture of him sitting on big piece of pet wood. The problem was that the lighting was all wrong, coming from the wrong direction. Jimi grabbed that wood up and moved it over to save the shot!!! If I'm not mistaken, they're in talks with Hollywood about an action movie...average guys turned super rock-crushing heroes...."Rock Heads I" (with Chariots of Fire playing in the background)...

Nice looking quartzite James. Lots of folks consider it "junk" rock but I like it. Nice job.
