I am getting to the end of all my store bought goodies from Christmas time so today I did the dirty job of busting up new tumbling rough. I did not finish it all but got about 30-40 pounds of nice tumbles ready. The victims My setup to contain the rocks. Aluminum plate to bust rocks on. Yes the rocks are very sharp and fly very fast. This is a piece of Mookaite that stuck into the plywood. The results. No leverites made the cut. This picture would make a very complicated jigsaw puzzle. Thanks for looking Chuck

What do you wear when you're whacking them? My guess: jeans, coat, goggles or face shield, helmet? I've only broken up smaller rocks. I cover them with a Tupperware type container with a hole in the bottom, turned upside down over the rock. Chisel goes through the hole and the broken rock all stays in the container. Your method looks more exciting.

I kneel down on a gardening cushion so usually my legs take the worst of it. Some really good stuff in this mix. Going to order 50 pounds of 46/70 tomorrow and get some rolling. Chuck

Hot damn, nice pieces in there, hard work for sure, but that's so much rock. I only have one Lortone model 3A, not much but there's that. You must be selling your tumbles to be able to buy 50 pounds of 46/70. I would too, but I'm far from it. Jeez louise. I'm stoned to death, now.

Its a great way to get your feet wet and is capable of producing nice tumbles. I do sell tumbles but they are lucky to break even. I sell my completed jewelry to fund the tumbling. I order 50 pounds of 46/70 just about every three months. Chuck

Got mine ready for when the weather warms up. I box contains what's left from my collecting trip to MI last year. The other a bunch of obsidian I bought over the years.
Where do you get your 46/70 from?

Where do you get your 46/70 from? It hit 62 degrees here in Michigan yesterday. Of course we got a foot of snow three days earlier and they are calling for snow again tomorrow. I get all my grit from the rockshed. Chuck

Chuck I brought jaspellite, unakite, granite, and both iron and copper ores. Some of the pieces were big enough to require a hammer. Unfortunately, I didn't run in to any puddingstone.

good looking mix! I have a hard time breaking up rocks, I hate to introduce new fractures, every now and then I'll pull a rock before it grinds down too much to set aside for cabbing.
