Welding a larger barrel out of steel with this 4 angle shape would be a bear. Cutting proper size plates to make it fit together would take serious calculations. The dimensions could be measured directly off the barrel and increased proportionately. But it would still take some wizardly work to accomplish.

Any old timers know when this unit was first produced ? I remember them at age 13-15, so 44-46 years ago. That would be 1972. I think Viking started making tumblers in 1960 1972 for sure. Vibrasonic vibe, see bottom of page:

I had a couple of the now DP Mini Sonic tumblers with "Geosonic" name brands but don't know how far they went back. I know DP dropped the incline tumbler a few years ago with problems with the gearmotor stripping gears. Barranca copied the DP tumbler and also had gearmotor issues. BD redesigned using a set screw attachment for barrel rather than threaded and all is well now. They think the threaded connection over-torqued while running and stripped gears. Made no sense to me but threaded model failed and set screw models don't. The design does work very quickly (like %20-%30 faster than horizontal barrel tumblers. Covington has a belt driven model they claim finishes metal as fast as a vibe tumbler.

Thanks for the info johnjsgems. Always good to hear your background knowledge. To cheap eh orrum ? These people buying first time tumblers should always look at Ebay, there is a lot of them. Yes but still kicking @shotgunner. Out planting the back 40 and tired. Took your advise and set a 50' X 120' bamboo grove on fire. It was killed by a freak freeze 3 years ago, I had the front end loader guy push it in to a win-row. Talk about an obnoxious fire, 15 minutes and singed eye brows. All very well, a big success. Yes, me happy fossilman. I'll be doing a video of the action.

I tricked you into buying it, HA. Misery loves company. I ran mine for the first time last week and there will be a learning curve for correct amount of rock, grit and water. I Think I started with not enough rock which cause some chipping then by the end of the week the load dried out more then I would have liked. Now we can bounce ideas off each other.

Looks like the old schoolers put some engineering into this contraption. Looks like those poor rocks have to go thru a maze each revolution. Anxious to fill it and get er going.

There was no video on that fire. It was all I could do to keep it from burning the moon. Sounded like AK47 battle.
