It is Oak, Stinking water mountains of Oregon. HArd to get these days. It will change in color a bit when the oil is gone. I got some I am polishing now that I will post on here soon/.. I use 300 degrees for a few hours more or less, sometime I forget about it and leave it longer. Let it cool down before removing from oven. Must be a bachelor... I love your threads. Never stop. I think even my wife would kill me if I brought it in the house to do. I have an oven in my tractor shed, under a roof but open so the smoke blows away. Got this big one cooking right now. I forgot to mention but I do degrease before cooking the oil out. It makes the process faster, I think. I use purple degreaser in water.

Got a couple of the slabs polished today. The color is not correct, I have to figure out how to get the white balance correct. I am putting tis one on to show the relfections that show sthe quality of the polish job. I will post another picture of one taken indoors, the color is more like the slab color.

I found my problem with the red shift in my pictures. I was using a vivid setting and it was taking any hint of a red tint and blowing it out. I have turned that setting off. I did not mean to mislead anyone about the colors. Everyday, I am learning more about cameras. There are so many layers of menus that it can be a bit confusing, especially when I don't have a clue as to what I any doing.!!
