Mom not to happy with cameras. Note suspicion in beginning.
Trusts me and wife explicitly to handle pups. Not visitors, that will change as she gets sick and tired of them lol.
She is protective and charges the house dogs if they get to close. Spearing them in the ribs with her nose, thankfully not using teeth.
Like a porpoise attacking a shark, never seen that one.
5 days, they have doubled in weight, Mom is developing more milk. She was low on milk the first 2 days.
Owner had her overweight so she is a constant threat of laying on them and killing them. But extra weight good for this gruel.
She must be watched 24 hours, at least for a few more days. Must relieve very grumpy wife at times. Me better at sleeping with one eye open.
Cooing noises all about food satisfaction and being warm and content. No runts, all consistent. A first.
One runt was born very small and died after 24 hours. It was just too weak and could hardly be hand fed.

Man, I love dogs and had to watch this about three times. Soooo cute!!!!!!!.....Mel Me too Mel. Must be litter # 20 in 20 years. Enjoy every one of them. Amazing how mothers are same over and over again. Rarely breed a mom more than twice. Amazing how rare breeding knowledge is. Wife gets asked questions from veterinarians regularly. Told her she should be midwife consultant. She helps people a lot. Born at 1 pound, pushing 3 now. Unusually strong and consistent in size litter. Mom a stout young 3 year old. But overweight, pups at risk of getting crushed by her. About another week and that danger will pass. |

Those are really growing! Lion dog puppies indeed! LOL Bill likes them animals. I think that was the sweetest horse I ever have seen. Where is that horse now Bill, Arizona ? |

Yes Jim, I left Chips and the horse trailer at The Effus Ranch in Az.
Mic, my Hangin Tree Stockdog and Chips are sure enough Lion chasing critters! As in mountain lion!
Another guy from New York n I were riding on the ranch and he was about 10 feet in front of me, Mic follows right on Chips heels. As the guy in front rode past a Palo Verde tree with a thick bunch of Creosote bushes around it Mic suddenly ran forward and dived into the brush!!! Out burst a full grown lion and away he went with Mic in hot pursuit, he hates cats, I guess a cat is a cat in smell at least! LOL. Well I shot the spurs to Chips and off across the desert we go with me hollering and whooping chasing the lion who is being chased by Mic! I pulled my lariat which was tied in a coil, I can't rope but carry one in case a cow is stuck in a dirt water hole. The other guys horse is going ape from all the commotion right under him, I was about 10 feet behind him. So eventually the lion jumped off a high drop into a wash and Mic quit and so did Chips n I! The other guy wanted to know what I was doing and if I was going to rope the lion? I told him that if the lion bayed up Mic could got killed. I figured I was riding a 1000 pound weapon and was gonna ride the lion down if he bayed up and throw the heavy coiled lariat at him!!! Hey it was a plan... LOL. Hey Chips don't know lions versus barncats, Mic don't either. That's not the end of the story. Lion is wearing a tracking collar. The game and fish department sent a guy out to see us about 3 days later. This particular lion was in Yarnell Az and suddenly moved down to us. Yarnell is about 50 miles away, lions have huge territories. This one is a male courting a female over on Eagle Eye Mountain. About 20 miles south of us, so Romeo is traveling 70 plus miles for a date. There are 7 lions collared and ranging on different areas on the ranch. This particular lion is a good guy, he eats coyotes as a prefered diet. They can tell because a kill holds the lion in the same spot feeding several days and then the tracker guy can go look at what's left of the kill. We find mule deer lion kills occasionally but nothing else and never a calf kill that we know of.

I like your plan Bill. Kinda reminds me of captbob 's chihuahuas wanting to take on his neighbor's rottweilers...they don't know no better, just gotta do what they gotta do!!!  A coyote-eating cat....I like that!!!!! The Alabama G&F says we don't have big cats down here in south Alabama but there's lots of folks that dispute that (including me). Wish I would get one to work on the coyotes around my place!!!! |

She bred the first one but felt sure she missed ovulation(a blood test performed by the vet) So she bred the second bitch. Sure she hit ovulation on that one. Well, she had two litters. 15 and 17 pups !! The girl almost died whelping them. Must divide pups in two groups and feed separate, as you mentioned, only so many teats. I think she paid a mortgage off with the proceeds lol. |

The absolute strongest pups ever. Never seen such power in their limbs. Momma is a very stout girl. Must have passed it on. They do have a sweet smell if you avoid either end. |

That looks like an interesting read, but the base story of lion trekking from the Black Hills of South Dakota only to be hit (and presumed killed) by an SUV on a Connecticut parkway seems kind of depressing.
