SiC 30 in rotary, to AO 80 for 2 days in vibe w/sugar, to A0 14,000 w/Borax for 1 day in vibe. The AO 80 removed the raw SiC 30 finish and slapped a pre-polish on in 24 hours. Go figure. Love that Pasco Co. piece. Jean's palm is pretty sharp also. The method seems to be working for you.

Going to put the flakes and spalls in the 12 pound lortone tumbler today with 46/70 grit and see what I get!!! The coral that chips real easy should be cooked at 525-550. Or not cooked at all in some cases. If it is the least bit grainy nail it with 600. some of the really colorful material is grainy and absorbs salts better. cook it hard with 650 and up. It gets the color. if it rings like a bell it is usually glassy. You can snorkel down and tap it with a small hammer under water. Easy to hear the ring underwater. sometimes a long skinny piece or flat scallop will really make a ringing sound just by tapping it with your knuckle. i like tumbling the knaps. They are easy to see thru, see the specks and remains of the corallites. I know i gave you a real nice knapping piece or two when you stopped by.

Jim the guy teaching me percussion flint knapping has some hopped up turbo charged turkey roasters and he loaned me one. It goes to almost 600 degrees according to my thermometer. It's a industrial rewired deal with extra insulation on the bottom and top. I take it to 200 and hold for 48 hours to dry the stone and then up 50 degrees per hour until it maxes out and hold it for 2-3 days on coral and some jaspers. Flint is 350 to 400. He has a kiln but it takes a huge amount to fill it up. He knows Stan very well, they r both master knappers. Can't wait to try the dark red mahogany coral in the tumbler.
