It is about 3 3/4 inch diameter, and has an excellent polish! It was turned by the same gentleman that made the obsidian sphere for me a couple years ago. See that postPicked it up for a sweet price, about half of what it should have sold for. Got in a bidding war with a gal for some slabs, about half of which were old stock crazy lace. Bidding started at $5, my final bid was $25. Was going to bump it another five (kinda hard to do, as the young lady was hovering RIGHT THERE), but the buzzer went off. It sold for $27. Would have been nice, but no great loss.

That's amazing! I did a quick search online to see other septarian spheres and yours was better looking than any of them!

Sweet. I'm thinking it looks more like the remains of the lost city of Atlantis. Display that puppy under a UV light at night. It'll really light up. Septarian under UV.

Wow, seeing some under UV light makes it even more amazing! Is all Septarian fluorescent or just some?

Dottyt, as far as I know, all septarians will fluoresce to some extent.

Thanks, everybody! Don, I'll have to give that a try. That's amazing! I did a quick search online to see other septarian spheres and yours was better looking than any of them! Thanks, dottyt. The gentleman told me he had just picked up a substantial amount of septarians, he brought three spheres he had just completed. One had an opening with calcite (?) crystals in it, it was not for sale. Then there was the one I bought and one other. I picked this one because I also liked the pattern the best. Jugglerguy, it does look like some strange planet!

Mel, he is about eighty years old, has had a long time to hone his craft. This septarian sphere has the best shine I have ever seen on one of these, and the best of the three he brought. Will have to ask when I see him next what he used.

I have a black light (70's poster type, not UVB or UVA), but that should still work. Thanks, ziggy for liking this post, and reminding me I still have to light it up and get a pic. Will do that after it gets dark tonight!

Will do that after it gets dark tonight! I am a big time septarian fan living where I do here in Michigan just north of septarian central down in Allegan county. I plan on breaking out a black light too for my septarian specimens as soon as I find all the old 70's stuff I have stashed in boxes somewhere. Mine look nowhere near as spectacular as that sphere you have though. Some of spheremaker's stuff is almost that nice using Michigan stones.

Finally got my butt in gear and took some pics with a black light. Without further ado -
The flash went off on the first one, oops. Had to use mrrockpicker's new phone/camera, my old camera would not take a low light shot. Still learning the functions of the phone.
Very low tech. Camera hand held, as were the two blacklights.
The pics don't do it justice! Was so much prettier in person! Brighter yellow between the "boxes" and vibrant orange in the lines.
Probably could have taken a little time and set it up better, but someone was in a hurry, lol.
ziggy , I like the septarians and the lightning stones. They both make great spheres. Thanks for jogging my memory so I finally got it done!
A poke to Don jakesrocks , since you mentioned lighting it with a black light a while back.
