Yesterday I was given a trim saw that came with a small bucket of rocks. Most of the rocks were Michigan stones. There were some low quality Petoskey stones, a couple nice little pudding stones, a softball sized piece of magnetite, and a few beach rocks that I'm not sure why they were hauled home. There were also two rocks that I didn't recognize. The first one is a light green color that my wife and daughter both guessed as being amazonite. I just looked up some pictures and I think they might be right, but mindat doesn't list it as a Michigan rock so it would be different than the other rocks in that way. I'm not sure you can tell in the photo, but it has large flat crystal faces that reflect light. Here it is, posing on my new saw: The other rock is really ugly on the outside, but sort of cool on the inside. No idea on this one.

Yeah, amazonite. Is the other wet? I have seen some stuff that was a spinach green like that, but it was unnamed. It cabbed well, though.

With that veinyness (is that a word) of the 2nd rock, I'm wondering if it could be a Stromatolite. Like Mary Ellen jasper - but different. Or maybe a bog material?

On the blue one do you have a face that gives you that flash of shine in a feldspar kind of way? If you don't have that feldspar flash i would guess a blue quartz.

The color looks right for amazonite, but the surface looks different from the specimens and other feldspars I have.

Yes, I would say it does flash like feldspar. There are flat faces that reflect a lot. Most of my feldspar experience is with rounded beach rocks of feldspar that still have that flash. I'm out of town for a few days, but I can make a video of it when I get home.

I'm thinking maybe Apophylite for the green stuff. Mindat lists the Keenaw Peninsula as a source.

I've never heard of Apophylite. Thanks for the info. I'm going to look it up now. My wife is going to the store of the guy who gave it to me on Wednesday. I'm going to send it with her to see if he remembers what it is.

I'm going to send it with her to see if he remembers what it is. I'm not seeing the crystals or same color that Apophylite has. It looks more like Amazonite like in the photo below. The piece in the lower left and the piece in the middle on the right are almost dead ringers for your stuff. I'm probably wrong though because looks alone are never enough. Also, amazonite does not all look the same either. There is some stuff pure in color and some stuff with white inclusions. This entry from the Wiki on amazonite sort of leads me to believe what you have is actually amazonite though. "Amazonite (sometimes called "Amazon stone") is a green variety of microcline feldspar." We all know how feldspar flashes. You yourself said it flashes like feldspar. If it flashes like a duck and looks like a duck, it's a flashing duck
