jamespI once was using an outhouse at a private duck hunting club. The damn yellow jackets attacked me (down there). I had four stings to the nads before I could react... Damn that was a tough day of hunting. Considering your activity it makes sense that they were angry. Maybe the target(s) were simply too big. Or hanging too low. Sounds like a potential for birth control. Hurts to think about. Heartfelt sympathy.

I called the club to report the wasps and the stinging and they yelled at me as I was there 30 minutes too early... Jackasses So they were bustin' yer b@lls. hmmm Doesn't the Fifth Amendment say something about that?

"In a USDA Bulletin 1218, Webb and Wells estimated that horse flies would consume 1 cc of blood for their meal,
and they calculated that 20 to 30 flies feeding for 6 hours would take 20 teaspoons.
This would amount to one quart of blood in 10 days."
Good thing it was not horseflies Scott. On the other hand, only females draw, the males collect pollen.

*L* Finally the sting has settled down. I got lucky yesterday too though, Was in a hurry to head out for the gym and PO this morning ad grabbed up my shoes. Knocked them out and a really large and very flat scorpion dropped out stone cold dead. Figure somehow, yesterday, I put my shoes on and squashed him with my foot without getting stung. Remember thinking I had a stick in m shoes but didn't bother to check it. The wife says I have the nervous system of a dinosaur. I can get whacked and react to it minutes later *L*. Anyway, I got lucky on that one. Stings on the bottom of the foots really hurt bad. James. Deer flies here really are nasty too and the dang things are so disrespectful they don't even like to fly away if you disturb them. I hate them giant red Polistes too. Sting feels like getting hit by a 2 x 4, burns and swells up real bad for days, then itches for days more as it heals.....Mel Amazing how the after effect of a Polistes sting feels exactly like a bruise. Or like a bruise in the making spread out over a long period of time. Ha, a study that concludes Polistes' color indicates poison gland size. Brighter color = larger poison gland. europepmc.org/articles/PMC3495029Could not find an article related to the size of certain human glands after being stung. Maybe Scott can divulge information on that one.

I don't get edema from yellow jackets. Just the red-hot ice-pick sensation, for an hour or so. Followed by the dull ache of a bruise as described. No fancy Anatomical descriptions, I promise.

*L* Scott, you should have had my ole pop's chili before hitting the outhouse. After hitting the lethal cloud created by them beans, yallerjackets would have instantaneously just dropped deader than door knobs. I've heard fumes from his chili would turn black widders in outhouse toilets white before they went toes up.
And shoot, I figgered you was gonna tells us that a little swelling and enlargement down in them nether parts was fer you, a big plus *L*...Mel
