I have seen it done, so know it is not a hoax. I have not tried it myself. Why are we so quick to categorize something as fake simply because we do not understand it? I didn't do a count but it seems most people on this thread are open to the idea. And if someone isn't so what? Some people just want to know how every gear moves between A and B. No one is saying dowsing should be outlawed or anything. I have seen it work too. I can't explain it, but then I couldn't really explain how a tile saw works either! Umm, no one really has to explain how a tile saw works; I'm okay being in the dark there. Of course, if it is something someone really wants to explain, I wouldn't want to deny you the pleasure.

Don't be so snippy. It was a rhetorical question, not aimed at anyone in particular, nor limited to this subject.

Seriously, the "L Wires" can be made of any material - iron, copper, glass, plastic. my hand span is about 4", and we always had lots of scrap 1/2" EMT conduit around, we would cut pieces about that length. Stiff coat hanger wire is great to use. Bend it L shaped, long part 11-12" long, the short part long enough to bend below the handle so it doesn't fall out. Length doesn't matter much. I have seen them short and real long.

well really Scott your gravity comment was way out of lea line to imply that because we don’t know the source of gravity that some how implies a transcendent deity that can be found with dowsing was just uncalled for

Don't be so snippy. It was a rhetorical question, not aimed at anyone in particular, nor limited to this subject. I don't feel snippy. But I love debates. Up to when I started posting in RTH the forum I posted most in was a political one. The rules were no bad words but all positions were allowed. The more intense the debate got, the more it was enjoyed by all. Of course in most forums anything remotely resembling this would would lead to hurt feelings. I am trying to just stick to rocks here, but sometimes I can't help going OT. I had no negative feelings towards anyone on this thread. And I have no unfriendly reactions to anyone based on their views of dowsing, or God, for that matter. Even in the political forum, religious debates could be deleted and one had to keep it to what this or that religious group was doing politically and not insult posters because of their religion.

Let's face it. Half of the population hates Hillary, the other half hates Trump. That's life at the present.

good observation Dave I would respond to it but I'm trying give up posting my political pov for something a bit less controversial like religion
I’ll say this about dowsing I don’t think it’s a magic trick In example… I don’t think the performer is trying to purposely deceive the audience.
I’ve experienced this first hand, at a demonstration I did at the Az. Mining & Mineral Museum. The expert showed the group how to perform the dowse experiment. Various people, including me, did the walk through. Certainly, I was mostly skeptical, although I had never gave it much thought. I felt a force cross the wire. Magnetic like. I was shocked! Even as I backed away from the target the rods opened. I was nonplussed. So much so, I tried a second time; a couple of folks later. Same results.
This cause me to get my own rods. Its never happens again. Was I deceived by group think? Were the rods manipulated by the host? Is it possible that a super magnet was the target? Could it have been strong enough to effect the metal 3 to 4 feet off the ground? Would the AzM&M play party to such chicanery? They were miners after all Ha I’m not sure --but I felt something. The only transcendent experience I’ve ever had. Perhaps.
So I don’t think people who dowse are out to deceive people. In that sense- there is nothing to debunk - but a persons beliefs system. And that kind of debunking is sensitive. I try to stay away from.

*L* It's hard not to believe in things like dowsing when, not being a member of the techie generation, I don't have a clue how my cell phone, my computer, my digital camera, my DVR or my television work. It's all magic to me!....Mel

That the truth Mel !
Its incredible how fast the wired or wireless technology as taken off and infused into all our lives. I don’t even think the technological guru’s behind it really understand how quickly invasive its become. Darn man-made beams, rays, waves proliferating everywhere. Or manipulating existing fields of force? And this is probably considered primitive just a few short decades from now. If mankind can tread that far.

Solve the gravity puzzle and deep space travel feels doable. We can then innoculate the universe with the human disease.

mohsIf you wanna learn about hypnosis, read Scott Adams blog for about the last year. He is a highly trained hypnotist and often writes about it. It is how he predicted in August 2015 Trump would be on top now. 8 months ahead of the next closest guesser. Trump is using hypnosis techniques that normal folk like us dont understand. For instance; his calling Bush "low energy" destroyed Jeb from that minute forward. History shows this. There are others.... ETA www.dilbert.com/blog/
