When someone at my rock business asks if I give discounts, I ask them if they are government workers. If they say yes, I say no.

Hey mikeinsjc, I find that a bit egregious for someone to be asking for discounts, particularly if they're a new customer/first timer to your (or anyone's) shop. That is just not cool. This is your livelihood and a good customer will earn the respect of the shop owner/small business owner who, at their discretion, may reward the loyalty with a small discount. I have never asked for a discount, particularly of the local small business owners who's shops I frequent. Big chain stores, on the other hand ... LOL

A declining economy fuels the government too. The people are too busy struggling to make ends meet. Less time to concern themselves with government activity. There are a good many people that are retired or have learned to have time to pay attention and educate themselves of government activities participating in this political category of the RTH. Some country's governments would censor such discussions. Thankfully we have freedom of speech and can be cavalier about criticizing and analyzing government behavior. The government still manages it criminal activity very wisely in light of freedom of speech. Making them a force to be reckoned with as they increase in power and monetary resources. Leaning toward socialism = higher taxes = more power, more resources, more intelligence, more undeserved control over the people. Shocked at new communities in a fast growing area. Government spending on the finest of everything. Who writes their budget ? Tell me they are not pursuing tax money in every imaginable tax category. They hire and purchase the finest. Not a lot of government workers defending themselves on this forum LOL. Where are you guys ? May they live under a blanket of insecurity and disrespect if they are acting inappropriately. Okay, jamesp. You asked where the government workers are/were on this forum. I'll come of the of the closet and tell the gang that back in the middle 1980's I was a civil servant working for a small city in Southern California. It was my first crack at what I hoped would be a career helping citizens and communities improve their city. As part of that idealism, I picked up a bachelor's and a master's degree in Public Administration. After four years of doing 65 hour work weeks, my doctor informed me that I'm might be developing an ulcer and that I had developed TMJ. He recommended a career change, which I did and never looked back. My time with the city government, though taught me a lot about what works well and what doesn't with local governments. It also gives me a much more rounded opinion on what I see as both right and wrong with our bureaucracy. Bureaucracy isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's the bureaucracy that allows the US Military its incredible power-projection capabilities. However, it's also the bureaucracy that makes rules without oversight from elected officials or citizens so there is a good and bad side to this. While I'll never go back to public service, I am glad I did serve. I'm cooking dinner right now so I have to end this. More later! Out of the closet eh lol ? There is certainly good and bad government workers. Our present government, well, needs scrutinizing and checks/balances. Everyone well aware. Namely the federal government, but state and city getting worse in the control department. Setting up a military machine ??...a time for war and a time for peace works for a responsible nation. No choice in many situations. No different than a man protecting his family. Military spending, agenda and money driven. No telling what goes on with those guys. Threats do exist though. Remember the Russians parading long lines of nuclear warheads during the cold war ? I was a kid and clearly understood they were making a show of force. What to do ?

If the greatest philosophers of all time were created by God they are mere creations of a much higher intelligence as their brains were created only as smart as the God that created them. Since no man can come close to creating an amoeba much less a brain then take your sights off of what man says and take a minute to think about what God says. If you don't believe there is a God then so be it. But you should take another minute and figure out where we, the earth, the universe came from. Therein is the power to behold. What is God's philosophy ? Many people believe that our complex surroundings just came into existence. That is their right.
The United States apparently started out with a Christian philosophy. Some may argue that. If so, it seemed to work for a couple of centuries. Does not seem to be the modern trend. Don't think the golden rule is paramount any longer lol. More like screw first or be screwed. Christian Philosophy #@$%^ ?? What is that and where did it come from ? Supposedly Biblical writings for the most part.
So, if the Bible is what it claims to be(the word of God), how clever are it's words ? Many people don't like the Bible. Much less people that make mention of it. Perhaps they don't like the truth. Though it is the most printed book in the world. Is that by chance ? Holy intervention ? Ask Samuel L. Jackson that one.
Best philosopher-Don Quixote hands down. A life of pleasure, romance and humor. All the things to live for. A master.
