Jeez Dave, the giant red Polistes wasps we have around here would grab the bottle and beat you over the head with it. Those suckers are aggressive!......Mel I remember almost getting a nest in a barn loft half way between school and home. I had the bottle over the nest and ready to slide it off and slap the lid on when my juvenile mind realized it was connected to a corrugated roof and the wasps were shooting out of both sides. I was perplexed. How do I put them back in? When they started stinging the primitive part of my mind kicked into gear. I threw the bottle and ran out of that loft - hit the ground at around 20 mph followed by an angry cloud almost all the way home. I paid a little more attention to possibilities after that.

I remember that I knew how to hit certain machines to get free stuff. The ice cream one was the best and a few pinball machines. Ahhhhh...... pinball. I was a wizard!

I remember that I knew how to hit certain machines to get free stuff. The ice cream one was the best and a few pinball machines. Ahhhhh...... pinball. I was a wizard! We lived 4 blocks from the Texas Capitol Building. In addition to collecting coins from the fish ponds, we discovered the Senate Break room was on the right hand side of the north west corner on the second floor. It was easy climbing those granite blocks at night after they closed. The window was always open because they didn't have AC. They had an ice and pop filed box with a lift off lid. We drank it dry. They started chaining it, but little hands could still snag the bottles out. They replaced it with a vending machine. Put a coin in, slide your selection to the release area and pull the bottle out. We ran home for bottle openers and straws. Drained them in the machine. It's a wonder we didn't end up in prison.

I recall going for a drive one late afternoon/evening. Dad was out of town, so it was just mom and us kids. We ended up down at Wind and Sea beach in La Jolla. There was this palapa down there (still standing to this day!),
and on the picnic table beneath it was a handful of change. (Could not find a single photo online of the table! Guess they got tired of replacing it when the storm waves would haul it off. Must be a thing of the past in and of itself...) W
Anyway, we collected up the change, and mom took us four kids (last two had not yet been born!) to see 101 Dalmations at the drive-in theatre. This would have been in 1961, in her 1959 Oldsmobile. I was four years old. Drive-ins a thing of the past mostly, although the swap meet we go to in Santee is held at one.

In the 1940-1950s, if I needed something, I would walk, ride my bike, or take the bus downtown and look for it in every store. Then take at least an hour to get back home.
Yesterday, as I was stretched out on a couch, and my cat stretched out on me, I picked up my iPhone, and ordered a little dish for butter, and paid for it.
It will arrive at our front door Monday. Wow!

What about Nehi? Love me some strawberry Nehi. I don't know if they make it anymore. I sure can't find any. That stuff is the elixir of yumminess on hot summer day. eta from wiki Nehi /ˈniːhaɪ/ (pronounced "knee high") is a flavored soft drink that originated in the United States. It was introduced in 1924 by Chero-Cola/Union Bottle Works. The "Nehi Corporation" name was adopted in 1928 after the Nehi fruit-flavored sodas became popular. In 1955, the company changed its name to Royal Crown Company, after its RC Cola brand. It was founded by Claud A. Hatcher, a Columbus, Georgia grocer, who began bottling ginger ale and root beer in 1905. In April 2008, Nehi became a brand of Dr Pepper Snapple Group in the United States. We have NEHI in colorado but in the form of a strain of "medical marijuana"? I'm sure a different effect then the soda? I know the creator of this strain mike stetler , I asked him why he named it Nehi and he told me because it reminded him of his favorite grape soda,

I was born to late for all the fun? I remember being 8 in 1983 and wanting a bmx bike with mag wheels so bad! I remember that all to well - I was 10 in '83... Talking about games played, I remember tag in the dark woods when camping. Zigged when I should've zagged and went face first into a big ol' pine tree. Stood up, brushed off the dust and kept playing. Mom & Dad just said to be more careful.

I remember that I knew how to hit certain machines to get free stuff. The ice cream one was the best and a few pinball machines. Ahhhhh...... pinball. I was a wizard! The coke machines that had the bottles tilted,we would just pop the tops and drain them into a cup... The shuffle machine, pop the tops and drink the pop with a straw... Candy machines,if your arm was skinny enough, you could reach up and grab a few candy bars.. Pinball, was the easiest, had one machine,if you put match books under the front legs, you could play it all night... Every Thursday,my brothers and I headed to the local butcher shop for slaughter day, watch them outside for awhile, than go inside and get free homemade cheese and a free hotdog...
