That one you've cut is a beauty...Mel Found a fair amount of congloms, many have a dark binder in the purple brown spectrum which hides the smalls. Must have a light colored binder to show off the smalls. Others are not glued together well. To tumble well the cobble should have a ring when tapped. And preferably flake like chert to a thin sharp edge. The hard part is finding the material that flakes like glassy chert. Another issue is the size of the smalls, many have large smalls. May have found 3 or 4 that meets those specs. This one probably the best of the bunch and weighs several pounds. May have come down the Brazos drainage, conglomerates common there. Also, the ones that are well glued together do not stain deep at the surface, i.e. low porosity/well healed, lack of freeze cracks. These were common and left behind

Awesome pudding stone! jamesp, you are a fountain of information. I only wish I lived nearer the West to put it all to good use.

Awesome pudding stone! jamesp, you are a fountain of information. I only wish I lived nearer the West to put it all to good use. This one may have washed down the Brazos River in north Texas Tela. This is a collecting spot in 'Texas Gem Trails' for conglomerates. May be closed to collecting but the Brazos should be fair ground to collect. If I can get around to sawing a cab slab off that rock I sure would like to see a photo of a beautiful Tela cab. Just a photo, not for me. Interested ? May not be your cup of tea and I fully understand. Let me know.

A chunk of palm. Telling of the abuse and tumbling action of the Rio. About totally round, too round to window with a hammer. Too hard too. Rio palm is some hard rock. Will have to do some surgery with the saw and diamond wheel. Judging from outside color it may be a real beauty. View of side of tubes.

jamesp, if we are talking about that first sweet conglomerate, I am all in. I'd do my best to do it justice.
