That fellow went to great effort to prep those fire pits for the paint radio. Sand blast is expensive in itself. Can't help with the puppies, you will have to deal with the boss on that acquisition.

Let the WARS begin. Cowboy Grill. Been around a long time. Better grill than fire pit. Busy looking for architect's hardscape. People looking for fluid and basic centerpiece. Target is a basic fire vessel with clean lines that lasts forever. Just repeating customer requests.

You may consider doing some copying yourself. The option of a bowl painted in a high heat paint (I would only do the outside) may be appealing to some of your customers. Don't know if it's worth the hassle of doing a good (no runs) paint job. I prefer the natural look, but ... does the rust (natural patina) rub off of your bowls? Wife types, or children of wife types, getting rust on clothing may lead to unwanted grief. Guess customer can always paint (ruin) it themselves if they care to. He will be in for a surprise within a year Bob. Depending on the depth of the coals it will cook the paint after the first hot fire down at coal level. A really hot fire will damage the paint well above coal level. Then rust will slowly undermine the paint from the bottom up. He will get calls from complaining customers. Thermal expansion alone way reduces the bond of the paint. Better off leaving it in oxide patina. They usually end up black at the top 1/3 and rusted below. Not so handsome at that point. There is a myriad of acids based applications they can use to alter the look. One company makes one that coats steel in copper. Such chemicals becoming a fad on raw steel. Coat with acid and start all over again, no sanding scrubbing sand blasting. Get asked about paint regular. Loose a few sales telling people no. Not paint. Ceramic coating. Cerakote makes a spray on that sticks better with heat. Its actually a spray on ceramic coat. Videos of guys lighting cigarettes on the flash suppressor on their ar-15 hot from rapid fire. With this product the surface prep is key. No rust, fresh grit blasted surface, dust free.... Cerakote is a hot product. I got in 3 years too soon. Walked before it got hot.

C'mon @shotgunner, don't make me work for a living. By the time I coated one pit I can weld up eight rust-ers.

The one in the photo is 37 inches in diameter and weighs 160 pounds @brader. The 41, 42, 48, 54 get much heavier. Custom pits are larger can get real heavy. I have access to three 96 inch bowls at 1 inch thick. Weighing in at 3000 pounds each. Hope no one asks to have those made. Can rent a crane...

Put food and spices in foil. Drop in clean pit. Cover with 4-5 inches sand/soil. Start fire, go fish or rock hunt, come back, uncover and chow down. Foil can be replaced with banana leaves or food shoved down bamboo tubes. Nothing burns, stays warm till you get back from your missions. appropriate attire for such dinner(me on far left)
