This is something new. How can I get rid of them? Very annoying and they don't go away.
I've joined AdBlock, but it doesn't seem to do anything.
Thanks!

Sounds like your browser may have been hijacked or some malware. Do some googling on it. I've had it before but I can't remember anything about it.

Do you have a good anti-virus program? How about a malware scanner? AdBlock takes care of everything for me, so I'm thinking you must have something else going on. Malwarebytes is an excellent malware scanning program. There is a free version, go for that. You get all the bells and whistles that are on the premium (pay for) version for the first 14 days of the free program. www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/

You think the pop ups are bad ? Just wait till those crazy snowflakes start running dow your screen in the next couple of weeks. I use Bitdefender, and it works great. Runs in the background all the time. Weekly updates are a little bit of a pain because you have to reboot after the update, but well worth the trouble. www.bitdefender.com/

I don't think I have any antivirus programs. I have all Apple products. I thought they were almost immune. Have Mac Mini , iPad, and iPhone.
I wonder how I picked up the malware.
Will check out all suggestions. Suggestions snd information much appreciated.

I have a mac and I use avast! antivirus. Free and gets the job done. Running a full system scan is fairly straightforward. It'll show you the files/etc that it detects to be the source of your problems and you can dispose of them accordingly. www.avast.com/en-us/mac

I'll look into all mentioned. Thanks for the links.
If I download a program on one device, will it automatically appear on all devices?
Does it make sense to put a different program on each device?
Thanks.

Several avenues Pat.
Not sure if you are running Safari browser or Lion or which one you have.
Should say in the upper left corner.
Click it and it should say 'preferences' in drop down. Click preferences.
Click the 'security' icon. Should give you a box to check that says 'block pop up windows'.
Or you can simply call the Mac help line. They have begun offering their help services for free. Try it, it was free a couple of weeks ago. Best computer help line ever.

jamesp I'm running Safari Sierra, and have already done what you suggested in Safari Preferences. If the problem persists, I'll call the Mac Helpline. Glad to hear it is free and the best! Thanks, James. I'll also ask Apple's opinions of the anti-virus programs mentioned above. Looks like I need something!

Apple's website says help is $29, so I didn't call them.
Malwarebytes is not in their App store, so I didn't download it. Website says most secure if downloaded from App store.
Did download Bitefender (it was in App store), so now I have Adblock and Bitefender.
Some websites are still getting adds from pixelxxx... Haven't found their source yet.
Deleted Surfbuyer (BAD ads all over the place) from hard drive. Appreciate all the advice. Hope this does the trick!

PatCNET.com is a safe source. I believe it is a Microsoft curated website.

Why isn't malwarebytes in the Apple Store online?
Is it a good idea to have more than one malware killer? I'm considering getting the malwarebytes you mentioned.
Do malware killers stop pop up ads?
Good to learn of cnet. Will check it out.
Thanks!
