I have been holding onto this particular piece of Fordite for awhile. I hated to do it but today it got chopped. I have one more just like it stashed still. Should be some fun cabbing over the next week or so. Very little waste. The scraps shown here are all there were. Chuck

Wow, that looks like a lot of awesomeness coming soon. Can't wait to see the cabs!
I have a sense of dread when I get really nice material. I want to stash it away and keep it for...I don't know what, but I'm only willing to cut and tumble if I have some to put back for 'later'. Is this normal, or am I a hoarder?

Those are going to be top notch, Chuck. Can't wait to see them finished. How thick was that? Can you groove wrap them?

Super cool. It's amazing at how nearly perfect the ovals are. Nancy has gotten lots of compliments on her pendant. It's a great conversation piece because most people have never heard of Fordite.

Thanks Rob- The red at the center of that pendant is the original top layer of paint. I managed to do that on three of the four I got done last night. Very difficult to not go through one layer of paint across all the wheels. Chuck

Very cool rock and pendant! I had never heard of Fordite and was worried it would be a picture of the fat crack smoking ex-mayor from Toronto. LOL

Very cool rock and pendant! LOL Fordite is not a rock. It is auto paint. It is the paint that is chipped of off the metal racks that go through the paint booths with auto parts. Chuck

Beautiful. I wander if this fordite comes from the car painting shop or it was made on purpose for cabbing reasons. It looks so flat and regular, compared to other chunks I've seen.

Adrian Thanks Adrian- If you don't actually go chip it off the paint rack yourself then it is very hard to guarantee the authenticity. I ordered three pieces like that one from a seller on ebay. He did say it was from an automotive supplier and the addess it shipped from was Dearborn Michigan which is where Ford motor company's headquarters is located. Regardless of where this stuff came from I would order it again if it comes up. Very little waste, awesome color variations, lots of metallic and takes a great shine. The price is VERY high for the flat sheets though. Normal rough tops out at about $1 per gram but these flat pieces were almost $2 per gram. This listing has been on ebay for awhile with no takers. If I did my math right the starting price is $4 per gram. Fun to look at though. www.ebay.com/itm/Fordite-/152330181057?hash=item23779619c1:g:mWAAAOSw4shX4GFeChuck

I saw an interesting television show the other day. The Cadillac Ranch in Texas with the cars buried on end.Years and years of tourists spray painting the cars has created a layer of phenomenal colors.A local man peels of layers and makes jewelry out of it. More amazing to me than fordite! Free too! Sorry if I hijacked your thread.
