rockpickerforever You know what they say PICTURES or it didnt happen. So lets see some pics. ha ha. Which part?
Jorts! Or, as we called them, cut-offs! Levis + scissors = cut-offs! Bass caught spearfishing
Or about Levis being my uniform once I was turned loose on the public?
Levis, orange socks, tree climbing
Levis, 501s, model airplanes
Model airplanes at Mission Bay, San Diego. The silver one is mine.
Dad's Corvair in background
Desert with Shadow, 501s, riding boots
You could say I LIVED in 501s! Cut them off for shorts after the knees gave out.
Sorry ziggy for totally going off topic on your thread. But I was challenged to provide pics or it didn't happen. So there you are!

We all wore cut-off jeans growing up. As soon as they got a hole in the knee boom they were shorts. Nowadays they start with holes in the knees and they don't get cut off. Go figure

Wow. Those are the old fashioned glow plug fuel motors. Nowadays everything is electric. My hubby built 3 quadcopters before he retired and couldn't afford that stuff anymore.

Oh hell, what did I unleash??? I'm going to reconsider ever posting to this forum again. I seem to have created the thread of hideous nostalgia relating to jorts instead of a lexan saw cover build review.....it's all good though I'll just remember to only read other peoples posts from now on

Well, since we have already detoured so far from the original subject of the post, how 'bout we continue on it some more?
Wow. Those are the old fashioned glow plug fuel motors. Nowadays everything is electric. My hubby built 3 quadcopters before he retired and couldn't afford that stuff anymore. Yes, expensive is an understatement! Although probably not as expensive as it is now. Probably had thousands of dollars tied up in just the glow plug/fuel burning motors. Foxes, SuperTigres... wow, hadn't really thought about all that for some time... I know we were doing it while I was in 9th grade, because I accidentally shot a full syringe of the fuel into my eye, and burned the skin off the eyeball. That was at the end of ninth grade, when we had all the finals to take. I had to wear an eye patch, mom let me stay home from school that last week, so missed all those tests. Was way ahead of everybody, did not affect my grades. Eye totally healed afterwards. I'm going to reconsider ever posting to this forum again. I seem to have created the thread of hideous nostalgia relating to jorts instead of a lexan saw cover build review.....it's all good though I'll just remember to only read other peoples posts from now on Oh heck no, never stop posting. This thread drift is exactly what keeps the forum interesting. "Cry 'Havoc!', and let slip the dogs of war" sic 'em ziggy ! What captbob said!!! X ten! Yes, interesting, that is a very descriptive term. ziggy , DO NOT EVER STOP POSTING!
OK... you ready for this? I give you .... Front and center ... Tommy in JORTS! circa 1988? I'm going to wake up tomorrow going "what the hell did I post..." Ha ha, Tommy , that's the spirit! Show us some leg!

Well said, Tommy!!! Ziggy, you have been admitted into the inner circle of crazy, free thinking, depraved RTHers. (Hey, do you think she bought it?)
Welcome to the asylum! Thanks for being a good sport!
Poor ziggy. I think Tommy's photo capped it off. rockpickerforever , are those U-contol airplanes ? Me and Dad did those. Yes, James. An expensive hobby for the entire family, back in the early 70s. I didn't go to all of them, but I went to contests in Glenview, Illinois (1970 Nats, aka Nationals), also remember going to the Nats in 1976, when they were held up at March, AFB. My younger brother went to Nats in Oshkosh, and Lake Charles, LA. He is the younger (shorter) one in the photos, he flew stunt.

rockpickerforeverDid you ever see the dogfights with the large wing/small fuselage design ? Cut the ribbon on the plane in front. 200 MPH and crash city.

Yes, James. It was called "combat" the airplanes called "wings." No fuselage, just motor mounted on the front, wing, controls, stabilizer. Those were some quick airplanes! Very exciting, and a lot of action. Occasionally, one would clip the control lines of the other, or a handle would get dropped. They'd fly up, up, and away in big lazy circles, usually coming down in the bay when they ran out of fuel. They did not have a fuel tank, but used a "bladder" (that was usually dropped down into a hole in the wing - we inserted the plastic "egg" that L'eggs panty hose came in!)so the fuel would be under pressure going to the motor. More HP. No one was ever hurt there than I am aware of, but it could have easily happened!
Dad took a lot of 8mm movies of combat matches, and other types of events as well. Don't know where they are now, I think my brothers gave them to someone to put on a DVD, and they never came back. Some classic stuff on there! I recall on match between two really good flyers, they were out in the middle of the field circling each other, and one guy, don't know if it was intentional or not, but he casually stuck his foot out behind him and tripped his opponent. Both brothers flew combat, the younger also flew stunt, the older of the two also did racing events, like "rat." I flew Carrier. Gosh, I haven't thought about any of this in a coons age, lol.
Just went through some files of old photos the other day (when at dad's) that had been scanned from color slides by my sister. Will have to look through them again next Monday when I am up there again, see if I can find a few you'd like. I put just a few of them on a thumb drive last Monday and brought them home, the ones I posted earlier.
