Am very jealous of your tumblers Garberg. Especially your home made vibe. Anxious to see Getto #3 with variable DC drive.

Ha. No money in the tumbling biz. This is a settled clay pond. This clay has almost zero sand. ![](http://media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/736x/36/72/56/3672566f84f51f06383ee4f2dc7393d2.jpg) Hey,a cat scan of my brain!!!!! LOL

MrMike The AO 80 experiment in the rotary has worked twice. No need for AO 10 or AO 24, the 80 will do the trick after SiC 30-46/70-60-60/90 Sweet, just make sure to post your disclaimer that individual results may vary....I've got 10lbs of AO 54 that I'm going to try when I get enough rounded rocks for a batch. Bought myself a UV-10 for 🎄, Cabelas had it for $222. BTW, that green moss is awesome, looks like algae growing in clear spring water.

Got to do a separation on the AO 80 to see if it is simply rounded and smooth and still in the slurry at the end. Congrats on the vibe purchase. Real big time saver.

They're too shiney, I can't see the rocks!
Laziness pays off, again! Isn't that how beer was discovered?
Looking forward to trying this out!!!

Very interesting experiment with very nice results . Other vibes not rated for 80 grit , gonna have to play around with method in the spring The AO 80 was run four days in the rotary wigglin. Only AO 500 was run in the vibe. My vibe has a big motor and is costly to run, so I was trying to take a load off of it and do some lazy finishing in the rotary with the AO 80. Very happy with the AO 80 rotary run. No one uses AO 80 in a rotary that I am aware of. Consider it a new way to use your rotary to get to pre-polish. Okay , I wasn't paying attention , AGAIN . Thanks for the slap up side my head . I am going to try this in the spring , probably 4 or 5 months from now . Was on McGills site while back and they had AO 80 I think . Really appreciate all your experimenting .

I know most vibes are not made to run coarse grit like 80 due to rapid wear. SiC 80 and AO 80 are two different animals. SiC way more aggressive. Way more. I ran AO 46 in my Viking vibe and yes it is made for SiC 80. I would say the AO 46 had smoothed to 220 within 4 hours though. The vibe works quick on aluminum oxide. So my point is that AO 54 way only be aggressive to your bowl for a short period of time. You may not suffer much wear. Running un-tumbled sharp aluminum oxide ceramic media in a vibe to remove sharp edges is probably a bad idea though. Best to break ceramic media in with a rotary.

Safer that way MrMike. Was the AO 54 expensive and where did you get it ? I have AO 24 on order. Am curious to see what it does, vibe and rotary. Guessing AO 24 will lay down a decent polish in the vibe after 1-2 days. Taking the large AO to extremes. Will separate the slurry to see if shiny little AO 'beads' are left. Or if it just gets ground into mud. Curious minds Merry Christmas back, you and Family. Preparing to go visit ~40 in-laws, wish me well.
