I got this two years ago at Quartzsite, put it away and pulled it back out when looking for something red to cut for this month's cabochon contest. The lady and her husband I got it from absolutely insisted it was Bloody Basin... absolutely flatout insisted they knew for a fact it was. So... I'm going with that unless you guys can convince me other wise. I'm thinking about Sabre52 or beefjello when I said that but all input is welcome. It's a doozy - large slab. Will almost be a shame to cut it up ... almost

Colors are dead on for Bloody Basin material though your example, like much of Bloody Basin agate, is more moss than plume. Bloody Basin plume is very unusual in that the plumes often appear to be composed of little overlapping scales or plates. Like this...Mel

That's a beautiful slab, but I liked seeing how you marked it out even better.

I have a 10 LB? rough of something very similar to this but not sure if it is Bloody Basin, I'll have to take a picture/post it on forum. I also have a definite BB 1+ LB? cut rough that is one of the best I've seen(came from different collection) which I'll post a picture of. Nice slab btw

I think those folks are pretty reliable. I've bought slabs from them for years. They usually have some fairly high end stuff (almost always have Bloody Basin). I have your slab's sibling in my box 'o rocks... Craig

It also looks like a wonderful slab of Cathedral agate from Mexico that I bought last year at Quartzite. The seller was a guy from Tennessee named Jerry near the south west corner of the Pow-Wow. Dry Wet Detail With a pendant in progress of Holt Canyon (Utah) jasp/agate. They all look like they were formed under similar geologic conditions. Triplet sons of the same Mother Earth. Lynn

Zarguy. Looks like the seller misidentified your piece. That is sooooo not Cathedral agate. Cathedral is very distinctive stuff and very botryoidal or stalactite like in formation. Much more likely Bloody Basin.....Mel
