There was recently a Landslide on the side of a 1000 foot hill/mountain here in town. The future wife and me are going to take the dog up there to search for some newly exposed Tumbler Food this afternoon. will let y'all know what we found?

Be very careful, a good many of those type of areas are not the most stable and further movement is always possible.

Well the wind chills are below freezing so the trip got postponed till the weekend. This landslide occurred about a year ago and appears stable but, we did go through a dry spell last year and then Floods for the new year.

Wind chills below freezing, lol. When I first read it I thought I read it as below zero, then I saw you were from Alabama. My wife has family that lives in Huntsville and outside of Birmingham.

We are still planning this rock gathering trip. I'm working today but it's 70 degrees F this morning. Maybe tomorrow . . .

Oh Yes . . . I've been thinking about this spot since the day we got the first tumbler in the mail. The waterways seem to be the best places to find rock around here ... and in all my friends landscaping beds . . . I was reading about a meteor crater that is the city of Wetumpka Alabama, thinking that may be a good place to visit ? www.wetumpkachamber.com/impact_crater.html

I am finally getting my first Mountain Rocks out of polish, more coming in a coupla weeks. Got a decent shine and some interesting, but not great color. The rest of the mountain rocks are mostly hard, boring, grey Limestone, not sure if they will shine well ?

They may not be the prettiest rocks in the world, but they have a nice rockhounding story to go along with them. Whenever I look at my Lake Superior rocks, I think about the days spent on the beach looking for them.

Getting a few more mountain rocks out of a different polish stage. I believe these are all some hard Limestone. They tried to shine but not as good as other stones in the same polish. Of course, limestone naturally reacts with water.

Thanks for the trip, you never know sometimes you eat the bear and sometimes the bear eats you...rock hunting is that way.
