I cut for a living, and focus on high end rough. Was just over to Tucson and the price of good rough was high. The sale price of the cabs makes up for it. So I can't tell if it is a catch 22. Like one of the other posters, I prefer to be cutting the nice stuff over the lessor quality I have lying around.

I started out cutting as good as I could afford because I was cutting for my own jewelry. Now, I have gotten even more picky because I sell cabs, too. My time is valuable to me. I ain't getting any younger! LOL!

I've never been lucky enough to go to a show with lots of slabs. I've bought some cabs, but I never see much rough. I do it all online and I've been burned enough times to have a good eye and spidey senses. Instead of getting spidey senses from a radioactive spider get bit by a radioactive owl instead. Not only will you be very wise and have great vision but you will also know how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop! Well said. I see light at the end of the mine tunnel. Perhaps one night of work left amigo. Tomorrow night.
