This 40# boulder was given to me as "granite with garnet and manganese"... I've never seen anything like it. Does anybody have input or insight was to what it really is? This is the outside Cut face Another Closeup of the metallic bits floating in quartz I think it will be a nice ball...

No idear. Can you take a photo of it wet? Did you make a scratch test? What's the hardness? Specific gravity? Any idea where it was found?
I can see the garnet, but have doubts about it being a granite of any kind. I believe the manganese part.

Jean, no SG yet, but I'm sure it's over 5 for the main mass. I promise more later. I'm cutting and working. Conference call and using slab saw... Multi tasking!! Thank god for mute buttons!
ETA locality is in the Sierras above gold country. A prospector have it to me.

Scott, I was actually just giving you some shit, lol. Those are questions you always throw out when someone wants ID help. Even knowing all that information, I have no idea.

And i deserved it for reason given. I should scratch it. But i bet it isn't scratched by steel. SG is the one i need most. But it is also a fail when we have multiple components like a granite...

I was thinking of heading up to bartons mine this summer(supposedly one of the biggest garnet mines in the world) since its only a couple miles away. looks like some of the stuff ive seen come out of there when I was looking it up. downside is no hammering. but I was thinking of getting some of the good sized chunks and working them at home. garnetminetours.com/mines.html
