It's not the color that is the problem, it is the structure and hardness. I have some purple lab and it doesn't have the same look- almost, but not quite.

I think the material soaked in acid is purpurite or another related stone. This would explain why my rough basically lost its purpleness when I cabbed it. In the hand, this stuff (assuming it is Purpurite like I had/have) looks surface metallic, sorta like covelite only purpler, rather than like labradorite or moonstone, where the chatoyancy seems to emanate from the inside of the stone like a flow. Does that makes sense?
