Both of these girls lived a life of riley with a friend. They are both 14 years old. Probably not long for this world.  |

Jenna in background is still fired out of a canon. Prada's not for the world too much longer.
They both have had full, comfortable lives and enjoying bonus years.
Jenna produced many of the finest built put-together Ridgebacks ever bred.
My wife was her breeder; a single(to this day) school teacher raised both her and Prada with a half a dozen other Ridgebacks.
Both served us well as Mommys to fine dogs. They passed many screening tests.
They are referred to as 'Boo Faces" when they go white, meaning ghost face.
They are both as sweet as their eyes portray. But will kill a cat in a New York.

I think that's why, other than the Pharaoh Hound (which I rescued), I've chosen working dogs as pets rather than hunting dogs. I do have other pets and there are neighbors with cats running around. I'm ok with my dogs not killing any other animals. Glad you have the room to allow those beauties to roam without creating mayhem. My neighbors' Rotties got a ball bat to the ribs when they grabbed a neighborhood cat one day. That will overpower the instinct to kill.

NO MORE aggressive dogs after those two. We have a problem w/mice. And a problem keeping cats due to the dang dogs. A only price paid for the RR instinct. I had a stray Rotty and a stray Fila come onto the property on separate occasions and both jumped the bull terrier. He killed both of them. Got tired of his crap, but I couldn't blame him for protecting himself. The RR's would run instead of defend-better solution. He could try to pull a low limb off of a tree and his body would come off the ground horizontal. Crazy dog. Would jump up and grab ceiling fan blades when a ceiling fan was on ?#!@?? |

My biggest problem with the working dogs, though, is the tendency to herd my kids' friends. A gentle nip to the calf to remind them to get moving doesn't feel like such to a child. It takes attention to the slightest perceived urge to keep my oldest Aussie in line. She wants to take control so bad.

I had to be careful with our Labradoodle around the guinea pigs also. I think she like them just a little too much.

Well Con's not an animal lover (nor hater) just doesn't prefer any in the house. My cat is an exception to that rule 😂 "If Mama's Happy" an all... BUT my cat is SPECIAL
He thinks he's a black panther. We've caught him doing some pretty odd things. For instance stalking and running all the pesky geese out of our yard, got him on tape just before dark in stealth mode watching a deer in the yard and climbing a tree and tried to jump down on it 😂😂😂

Ha, the year old Ridgeback found the bee hives my buddy just set up in an attempt to get 'water lily bloom honey' off my lily stock ponds.
She did about 12 180's in mid air before she figured out she was in their turf. WHERE'S the video camera when you need it !! LMAO
Consider my self fortunate to be present when she learned about the birds and the bees.
"Let me tell you about the birds and the bees and the thing between your knees...." Oh, it doesn't go like that.
