A lot of people really like Shawn and The Rock Shed and you can count me as one of them. I've posted this experience elsewhere on the RTH boards. But, I guess I should have posted it here first.
I ordered the Thumler 3# tumbling kit from him, extra barrels and a pound of Mixed agates, jaspers etc-small, and a pound of Red Jasper. It arrived within the week. Inside the kit was a pound of stone that comes with the kit but then there was another smaller bag of rock I didn't expect. Well, after setting up the tumbler I got the rock out and cleaned the large bag and then started cleaning the smaller bag. The first odd thing I found was a Marlboro Light cigarette butt! I laughed at that but then I found a rock that I'd say about 100% of us would just keep kicking it down the road as we walked along lifes highway. So, I wrote this joke e-mail back to him and with as much kidding as I could do without going overboard I let him know what I found. I asked him did they make up the tumbling kits or were they made up before he gets them. Well, they're made up before he gets them but he believes that the kit doesn't give the customer enough rock. So, he makes up a bag of mixed stone and adds it to the kit. Remember the store is in South Dakota just down the hill from Mount Rushmore. So, during the winter they aren't able to crush up rock like they do in the summer. Which is they crush up hundreds of pounds of stone and store in on a cement slab outside. Well, the weather was nice for a while and they crushed some rock and it was this rock that my EXTRA bag probably came from. I told him it was no big deal, hell it just barely came to an ounce of rock but he was adamant about making it "right" for me. Well, I needed another barrel if I was going to tumble with truely dedicated barrels. So, I made my order and jokingly said he could toss in a piece of Pet wood if he wanted to make things "right"--insert smiley face here. The next thing I know Shawn sends the barrel and inside is a half pound of some of the nicest stone he's sent me. It had to be hand picked! It was in this heat sealed bag! Here's a picture of what I got. And the two big stones on the right side are very nice Tiger Eye rough!
And the pic of the single stone is the first Bubble gum rock I've ever seen, or gotten! I thought it might be a Pet Egg of some kind since that's the shape it has!
So, he's got a friend for life in me! Plus if I can just talk the wife into going "to see" Mount Rushmore....and then maybe stop in this really neat Rock Shop that's family owned? I know this might be a little pushy, but if you click on the thumbnail then hold your curser on it a little symbol appears in the lower right hand corner. You click on it and it will magnify the picture. There are 12 stones in it and would someone be so kind as to tell me what they are? Starting from the upper left hand corner and going across as 1-2-3-4 then to the next line as 5-6 etc. telling me what they are? I do know that 10-11- and 12 are the bubble gum agate and the two Tiger Eyes. So would someone help me out with the rest? Thanks a lot!
