The problem isn't image storage space...storage space is cheap cheap cheap. The issue here is bandwidth. Bandwidth is limited and expensive. If you're sharing a lot of images and they're getting lots of views, each view uses up a small amount of the image hosts's bandwidth...KK's exceeded photobucket's bandwidth allotment for free hosted images, so they've shut down sharing of his images until he pays up for more bandwidth. Usually bandwidth usage is reset on a monthly basis, so his images should be viewable again when the month rolls over in a couple days. Will see if that happens. If I exceeded bandwidth suddenly at 18%, then I wonder as to why it would have happened to a lot of other people too at the same time. In any case, will move on to Flikr. They have improved a lot, and wayyyy less adverts. Saves time by having instant re-size option for sharing to forums. And once you get to know the system, way quicker and easier to deal with than PB. You do know about the rockshow picture hosting, right? Tommy set it up and is offering a free account to all members and an optional one time payment account. It's really, really good. I think it's easier than flickr, too. No ads, no pop ups, easy link posting and it is run by our own Tommy. Just contact him for your own account.

I think it's more than this - if you look at the link text in the placeholder image in KK's posts they are clearly telling him what Jean said - he has to sign up for the 500 plan or else. kk I feel bad for you and everyone else having to deal with it - and for RTH and all the other forums you all post in. Our posts are going to look like swiss cheese for a while. I also hate that it happened right when I rolled out the RockShow and hope everyone knows this was pure coincidence. My gallery program has been in researching/building/testing for at least two solid months and right when I felt emotionally ready to roll it out PB takes a crap - go figure. Just for the record I like Flickr and to many that's the logical choice going forward and I there's nothing wrong with that. My personal issue isn't with Flickr, it's with Yahoo. I DESPISE Yahoo I got locked out of my Flickr account about a year ago when something happened and I lost my Yahoo password - and my "lost password" email doesn't exist anymore. It was a REALLY old account from back when my yahoo email was SBCGlobal.net which became ATT. I can't contact ATT because I never had an actual ATT account before the whole thing became Yahoo. What a twisted mess and now I've got probably 500 photos locked on Flickr no way to access the account. It's gone forever.

One more thought... as I said I like Flickr and still mourn them becoming part of Yahoo - BUT they are part of of Yahoo, a company with a history of very poor management and finances. When bucket users flock to Flickr - how long will it be until they figure how what Photobucket has done price wise and follow suit? My guess is it's right around the corner.

Thank for all the info and your relentless effort to keep RTH a superb place to go to on a daily basis. Yeah, yahoo is a downside, have had an account pretty much since the beginning of it. They periodically log you out (or, actually, I think Windows update does it once or twice a year), so password need to be stored elsewhere. I'm not sure if they still do it, but years ago, anything I put on Flikr turned up in Google search a few days after posting. So you might still have a way to recover your images if you named your pictures, or like I do, add my name to the title. For the time being, will go with Flikr, if that goes awry too, might come back to the system that you set up here at a later date. I'm only posting on 4 Forums, does your system allow sharing to other Forums? Thanks, Kurt

rockpickerforever, yep, I was wrong. I hadn't realized the bit about 3rd party posting. I think Tommy's right that Flickr and other sites will follow suit if PB succeeds in this. Hope everyone is able to recover their images. I keep all of mine permanently on my hard drive with occasional back-ups to CDs.
