These two come out of the rotaries. Running with 50 grit grinding wheel chunks at removal, so they were scratched well before going to AO 80. Did not roll long, but were pre-ground. Video shows vibe slurry after 24 hours. 2 tablespoons of AO 80 created a good bit of rock mud. Still have 24 hours to go in 80. Then 18 hours in polish. Decent polish, not a wet one. Palm Burgundy moss Video @ 24

Great stuff Jim jamesp I get the audio but not the video. Where am I going wrong? GOT IT NOW !! Not sure of how the palm got scratched by the grinding wheels?? Just fractures on the palm. chert cobbles on the Rio can be large and have no fractures. Moss and wood is hard to find w/out fractures in 1 to 2 pound sizes. They saw some abuse in their trip down.

Will clean the vibe out today. Do 2 tablespoons each of Borax and AO 14,000. Will/should have a fine shine tomorrow.
Minimum time to do these two:
Pre-grind 15 minutes Rotary for 2-3 days using SiC 30 48 hours AO 80 in vibe. 18 hours AO 14,000 in vibe.
So 4-5 days for the biggies at best. The smaller rocks(target media) take much longer. After they have shared space with 6-8 big rocks they will be finished.

That palm was about as good as I could find Arlen. Few and far. About 4 big fractures, but plenty of cab able meat in there. I could not find a fracture in the moss. Good fodder for cabs. I guess they tease the cab man.

OK, I got it! Because all my rock "tools" are in AZ, and we spend the summer in Montana (home), I will have to wait until October to try the "bolder-polish" out. Actually I have a couple of pretty good sized "lunkers" started in the Lortones but they maybe need some grinding time on my "super grinder". My rocks are a piece of rose quartz, some Montana agate, and some Arizona pet-wood. By the way, thanks so much for sharing and letting me know that my idea is possible...you can tumble, vibe and polish the big-uns!

Thanks everyone. I must say the larger pre-ground rocks are nice early fringe benefits of tumbling.

Gotta love them there James' Jumbo Tumbles. Those are both beautiful but that palm, man that is a beauty!....Mel There was a lot of that same palm in the gravel roads around George West Mel. Exact same. Only gravel size, probably due to screening operations for road size gravel. Sure would be nice to find a gravel pit with larger stones in that area. Or serious deposit. That piece was found in the high pool level of Falcon Lake where several chunks of palm were found. The spot looked as if it were the deposit from a higher elevation wash. Perhaps originated from Texas.

Edit: Okay, your real name is Jim?

adamIt would take a long time Adam. Just like a normal rotary run, say 10 days 220, 10 days 500 and 10 days polish or whatever recipe you so desire. And you would have to run one big rock per barrel because 2 big rocks bang on each other. Bad idea. So the Vibrasonic does them in three days verses 30 days in the rotary one at a time. Or the Vibrasonic does them 3 at a time in 3 days with 2 dividers. The Vibrasonic is making this work for me.
