Bloodstone was my original plan, but the green didn't really go with the willow creek so I changed to white agate from the polkadot agate mine. The basanite is a bit softer but being a form of basalt is tough enough to not undercut, but as you can see it doesn't get the wet polish like the jasper and agate. Well we knew what Tommy meant anyway - I was just yanking his chain. That is a rock of awesomeness. Of course we'd be interested in a post of details! It is not so much the perfect shapes that can be cut on a facetter, but the seamless joins that intrigue me. The times haven't allowed me to be so productive in the recent past ... hopefully there will be some more from me in the future.

CRAP!!! the first time I EVER enter a contest and I have to compete with Rockoonz 's intarsia! Oh well, I'm committed since I took the pictures.... I had a chunk of abt 30mm of covellite. I had it marked out to make a circle, cause I knew it would be a pain the a** to get a square out of it. It was really wonky and varied in thickness. I chose a terrible stone to do this contest with because it is so damn soft and once I pass 220 soft, it gets hard to see the cab because of the reflections and shininess. But, I eyeballed it and tried to keep as much of the stone as humanly possible. It didn't end up too bad. It is less than a half mm off anywhere. The corners are nice and sharp save for the bottom edge which was chippy. I settled on keeping that- didn't want to keep getting smaller. It ended up being about 28mm. The chunk was thick. I opted for the high dome instead of grinding so much valuable stone away. It is 10.25mm thick. Not the greatest cab I've ever done, but in terms of difficulty, IMO, I put it at a 9 out of 10. I'm glad for the contest or I would have made a little circle and wasted a lot of the material. Holly blue agate, about 8mm x 8mm. The back still needs some leveling out. Hi DonDid this get levelled out / finished? I'm just asking as at the moment your entry is still on a dop so I'm guessing not quite finished. There is much potential in this stone.

I probably won't get around to it until I'm building a setting for it. I've been feverishly cabbing up more of this material in the meantime.
