Last week I ordered some Bloodstone rough from Stoneage Industries... others on the RTH Board have gotten some nice rough from them, so I thought I'd give them a try. The Bloodstone is described on their website as being "a premium dark green chalcedony with red spots or inclusions" and the pieces pictured are nicely patterned. Received my Bloodstone today - 14 pieces, and only 1 piece showing any red at all. Every other piece is an ugly dark solid green. Not what I expected. Also got some Bruneau rough, 3 small stones for $20.00 If anyone is looking for Bruneau, the stuff that I got from the Gem Shop Inc was less expensive ($12.00 a pound as opposed to $20.00) and there were more stones (received 7 pieces in a pound as opposed to 3..) with better patterning...FYI. Just sent Stoneage an email informing them of my dissatisfaction...we'll see what they do about it. Susan

Hmm, kind of a stretch calling it bloodstone if it doesn't have any "blood" in it. Maybe they should call it healed stone. I hope they make it right for you, keep us posted.

What you see is what you SHOULD get...but with some people they show the good stuff and send out junk. Good luck in getting them to make it right. Stay on them until they do.

I agree with John, just let them know that you're not happy, and they will make it right. As for the bloodstone, I bought some from them last year and didn't see any red spots until after I cut into the rock. I've had nothing but good experiences from them. Good luck.

I agree with Ed. Sometimes the spots don' t show until you cut into it but if it definately doesn't have red spots, it's just green jasper, not bloodstone and I'd expect satisfaction...mel

Vendor has responded and has offered to exchange the rock I have for some with better patterning. I told her I'd be willing to do so if she could send me pieces like the ones pictured/described on the website, otherwise I'd like a full refund. I hate negotiating. The ball is in her court. Susan

Well, stoneageindustries have been very nice to deal with. They offered to replace the rock if I would pay to ship it back. Paying twice for shipping something I wasn't happy with just kinda stuck in my craw so I decided to keep this shipment and bust it up for tumbling. I placed another order with them, as they ASSURED me I would be happy with a second order, so I'm trying the Fancy Blood Jasper, Horn Coral, Peacock Slabs and Cathedral Agate. Ed and Sands have highly recommended them. We shall see.... Susan

I think you'll be very happy with the new rocks you've chosen. I haven't ordered the horn coral or the peacock, but the fancy blood jasper and the cathedral I got from them were outstanding. When you bust up the bloodstone let us know what it looks like inside. I'm just curious, because like I said, there wasn't much red showing on the pieces I got either until I got to the inside of the rocks.

After reading the latest, I'm left with a negative opinion of Stone Age Industries, in this case. I know that someone (Shain, I think), once posted the old-standard-etiquette for rock purchases, and if I recall correctly, he did say that having you pay to ship it back at your expense was considered fair practise. And I can see the logic behind this, because otherwise a person could just keep sending material back until they were sent super-super grade just to shut them up.
But surely in this day and age of digital communication, it should be pretty straightforward for them to ask you to email pictures of what was sent, and then they could decide if you got a fair deal, or whether they inadvertantly sent you all bad stuff. They could even ask you to crack it open for a look inside. Sending pictures would save the shipping expense, and if they really did send you all poor grade, then I think they should swallow the cost of sending you better grade and letting you keep the crap stuff. Maybe I'm expecting too much, but that's my opinion.

No Don I don't think that is asking too much- I have a feeling that this was a mistake- and perhaps Stone Age dropped the Customer service ball on this- It seems the are doing way too much backpeddling- It should have been as easy as: Send back the rough- we will credit you back the shipping on your next order- Plain simple-

Received my second order from Linna today....a plethora of nice little slabs, a piece of Cathedral Agate rough (gonna have to find someone to cut it for me...John?), a nice looking pound of Horn Coral from Utah, a piece of Fancy Blood Jasper, and a free pound of Bloodstone showing some nice color. If I had gotten rocks like this the first time I would have been a Happy Camper! Not sure if they high-graded the second order or if I had bad luck with the first order...but this rock is nice. I will post photos when time allows.
As previously stated, I kept the original parcel of Bloodstone because I didn't want to pay to ship it AGAIN. We'll see what it looks like when I bust/cut it up. Ed seems to think there might be some color on the inside.
In the meantime, Linna says she's having someone sort through her Bloodstone and remove any pieces that are solid green.
All's well that ends well.

Stoneage sounds like they want to keep their customers satisfied. I like Linna's comments about separating the green jasper from the bloodstone. Sometimes, I think their employees may not be dedicated rockhounds and just pull a rock from the bin and send it rather than looking at the rock and drooling on it before sending it.
