This spring, I posted a video of myself hunting rocks in Lake Huron. Some people were surprised at how many Petoskey stones I threw back in the lake. Over the years, I've become a little more picky about what I haul down the beach. Buckets get heavy in a hurry, so there's not point in bringing bad rocks back. Today I had my kayak with me, so I decided to bring back some of what I would usually reject. I wasn't sure how to offer these because honestly they are rocks I wouldn't have brought home for myself. They are not great Petoskeys. Most have somewhat blurry patterns on them. Lots of them are not fully Petoskey. For example, the backs may be plain black rock. For one reason or another, they're just not great. I still threw plenty back, so there are worse rocks, but there are better ones too. I have enough to fill medium flat rate box. Since I didn't know how to sell or give these away, I decided to auction them. That way whoever wants them the most will get them and pay no more than they're worth to them. The bidding will start at $13 which will almost cover shipping (so shipping is included in the price). The bidding will end Friday 7-14-17 at midnight, EDT. If no one shows any interest in these, my feelings will not be hurt, I'll just dump them back in the lake. Petoskey stones are very soft and require a special method of tumbling. They can also be polished on a cab machine or flat lap. They can even be done by hand with automotive sandpaper, but it takes longer that way. Let me know if you need advice on how to shine 'em up. All pictures are shown wet, except the picture of the very full box. Petoskey stones don't show their pattern well at all dry. Yep Got some and Rob told me how to polish them. Thanks Rob. Jugglerguy Mine aren't near as nice as Rob's rejects though. If these are his rejects I would kill for a chance to buy some of his nice ones!! But not nearly so many. A guy cant use so many specimens of one thing. Putting up a 200 pound crystal specimen of a rock I like on my av since I don't post poctures.. MAssive calcite crystals. About 200 pounds of it.
