Has anyone bought from here?
Dec. 15th i ordered and paid for a SC wheel from them. Ten mins later I ordered a router speed controller from someone else. I have had the speed controller for about a week now, but no sign of the wheel. At first I thought well they must be in ID. or WY. and the snow slowed things down, but I checked and found they are in NJ. I tried to call and got a leave a message recording. I am starting to get concerned.

never heard of them before, have you tried e-mailing them about your order?

I have gotten saw blades twice. Their prices are low, but it is verymom & pop and mot items are drop shipped. SO I ordered the blade form them, and specified Priority, but it got drop shipped grom Graves and came UPS. Som honest but slow. Sometime things get backordered by the drop shipper. I decided that the $5 savings was not worth it.

I started to order one from Arrowhead a bit ago, but decided to give them two more days to either bloody respond or for it to arrive. It is too bad, they had things that I thought I could get all in one place.

I checked paypal history and found the money unclaimed. So nothing has been done in two weeks. I sent another email canceling the order and requesting a fefund. Ordered from Arrowhead.

This is my experience with amlap:
Amlap to me (September 10th): The total cost for your order is $271.17. Shipped via Air Parcel Post, insured, to Serbia.
Me to Amlap (September 18th): I was wandering what is the status of my order. I don't have any information about it since I send you my credit card number 7 days ago. Thank you. Sincerely, Zoran Miladinovic
Amlap to me (September 18th): We have all your order information. The Lortone arbor will be available to ship about 10/1/2006. Nothing will be charged to your card until then. Thank you for your order! Linda ALW Customer Service
Me to Amlap (October 7th): Dear, amlap Please, cancel my order. There is one month since I ordered and you still didn't shipped it to me. My cancellation is probably redundant but anyway... Regards, Zoran Miladinovic
So, although this wouldn't make it any easier to you, you'll know that you are not the only one (and everybody else).

I've never dealt with these folks, but I think they have been painted a bit harshly in this thread. They may be slower than people would like, but they seem to be honest, sell at a bargain price, generally respond to inquiries promptly, and haven't ripped anyone off. As a mom and pop operation, it isn't surprising to me that they are a bit slow over the Christmas period. Heck, I just received a package from one of the major rock sellers on ebay that took 32 days to arrive after I paid them.
American Lapidary Wholesalers doesn't seem like the best choice for those in a rush, but for folks who can wait a bit to save some dollars, I haven't seen anything here that should scare anyone. -Don

"generally respond to inquiries promptly" They did not respond to me in any way. The phone calls I left on the answering machine were polite as were the emails I sent, not one word back. Any kind of response would have been helpful. All I wanted to know was if it had been shipped.
Ok, maybe "to bloody respond" was a bit harsh. I did not mean it to sound like that.

Hey Spike, I'm not trying to start an argument here or anything, I was just basing the "generally reply promptly" comment on the fact that they responded to Zotika's email the same day, and from the timeline above it looks like you phoned them on Dec. 28, then cancelled your order the next day when they hadn't responded. Since folks say they are a mom and pop business, I suspect they are probably closed down for the Christmas through New Year's period, so don't even know yet that you were trying to get in touch with them. Since I sometimes use this board to decide whether or not to do business with a seller, I just wanted to make it clear that they don't appear to be a "bad" or "ugly" seller (as in the title of this board), but can maybe be a bit slow, so aren't the best choice for folks in a hurry, but aren't dishonest or cheats or anything like that. -Don

I have a little bit to say hope I am not over stepping but if they are a Mom and Pop maybe it is worth a little bit more time to support them over a big INC I have found Rock hounds to be pretty patient people so what is a few more days to save the small guy?

I don't remember the date I called the first time, it was not about the order, but I had a question about something else explained that I was going to buy it the next order but needed to know which one. But I felt like I was being blown off with no response and no one but me really cared. I got the impression they were a mom and pop from the answering machine when I called to check on the order, and I would spend more at a place like that than elsewhere, but I need to be told something, anything. If it's on me and I am wrong then I am.
I put the subject back as it started.

ALso, I don't think any lapidary supplier is big INC. I think most outfits would have 10-30 employees.

Just a quick update, I got my first communication from them today telling me that they had no record that I had ordered anything. It was through thier website, and I had picked the paypal option which took me to paypal to finish payment which I did (it is still unclaimed and in limbo). So I really don't know what to think.

Well, I've seen enough to convince me that they are not worth the risk. Thanks for posting, Spike. When you compare this thread to the Rock Shed postings, there is no contest.

Mom and pop or not, four months is a long time to wait for a order confirmation.
This evening they requested I pay through paypal after saying in January they did not recieve my order. Are you Bloody kidding me? And that is how I responded.
