OK, I am quizzing myself a little here but need help on some.
Took photos of each and posted to Flickr. www.flickr.com/photos/145230675@N04/albums/72157685288988520
Been trying to learn so much, but still unsure on some specific names or if there even is one.
I numbered each item. Took photos of “best” side of each dry and wet. Back side just wet. Below is what I think each is and if I am hunting for more info. Some I have no idea. If there is more pertinent info about an item, that is listed as well.
Hope that each photo can be enlarged enough for a good view. I also had to adjust color/lighting on a couple individual items.
All were found in Central WI on my land.
1. Trace plant fossil? Rock appears to be yellow jasper with a dark red plant like pattern.
Reminds me of a lacey seaweed. Or, a pattern made when water with a mineral content seeped between/inside a rock.
2. Fossil lake/sea bottom. Rock appears to be a combo of sugar quartz and sand stone.
3. Fossil lake/sea bottom. Rock appears sort of jaspery (is that even a word). The white area appear to be quartz like.
4. Fossil mushroom. Rock appears to be a sugar quartz/sandstone. What type of mushroom?
5. Some type of agate or unakite?
6. One of the strange quartz/jasper mixes I am finding.
7. Fossil mushroom. What type?
8. Jasper. What type?
9. Jasper. What type?
10. No clue. Black side appears almost like molten something. Has a metal like appearance, but is not magnetic. Other side looks like yellow jasper. Middle is a dark red.
11. Would this be considered fossilized shells? The shells themselves are not rock like, but they are imbedded in the sandstone. The shells have the consistency of those found on beaches today.
12. Jasper. What type?
13. Jasper. What type?
14. Agate or conglomerate?
15. Some type of crystals. Do not appear to be quartz. Sort of citrine like.
16. Looks like the remnants of a sea creature in there.
17. Jasper. What type?
18. Looks like a fossil colony coral. Material is like limestone. Very soft. The small dots, look exactly like the ones a good Petroskey stone has, just much smaller.
19. A fossil snail. It’s there, the round spiral thing at the top. What kind?
20. The striations make me think this is some type of fossil.
Rock is jasper like.
21. Reminds me of barnacles. Stone is like white jasper.
22. Limestone type material. Striations make me think fossil, but could just be worn rock. The. re are also many “dots” on the lighter portion
So, any help or confirmation appreciated. I can try to get some better photos of individual items if needed.
Thank you
