I will bet you any amount of $ you care to lose I can find 10 to 1. Probably 1000 to 1 incidences of natural gas or propane explosions to Acetylene. Ask anyone who is a welder if they have ever heard of an acetylene explosion. Ask them how it burns without oxygen. I also have lots of smokless powder in my basemen I don' tell the insurance about. Vic Since no one cooks or heats their home or water with acetylene your point is irrelevant. I personally know many welders and people who have welded, cut and brazed for a living, myself included, and all are aware of the real hazards of acetylene. Do you understand that the inside of acetylene tanks have a sponge material and that storage in a tank without the sponge would almost surely result in explosion without the presence of more than the slightest trace of oxygen or any oxidizer? Go to a welders supply house and attempt to put a tank in the trunk of your car, they won't let you. Federal law. That law does not apply to propane or Natural gas. That said, my big propane tank lives outside the shop, neither should be kept inside.

We have 15 very large Acetylene tanks inside our shop. I assure you I can and do get my small B tank exchanged and put it in my car to take home. Did you hear lots of Acetylene explosion horror stories from your welder friends? Both State owned Schools I took silver smithing classes from had multiple Acetylene torches running off one tank. You can continue to live in fear. I will just continue to live. P.S. If you have any copper minerals or Bumble Bee jasper you are too fearful to cut, send hem my way. Vic
