To reiterate what jamesp said, the sumac in the lower picture (with the red parts) is NOT poisonous. It is staghorn sumac. A tea can be made of the red berries, and early sugarers used the hollow branches as sap spouts by removing the spongy interior. Yep, the poison Sumac looks about the same. Except white berries instead of red. And the red is more common. Never knew there was a use for the red berried variety. Sap spouts, I get that. Tea, well, Sumac tea just does not seem appetizing. Sumac = poison in minds around these parts. curious what such a tea would provide in nutrients. Worm wood to make absinthe liquor. Illegal for a long time. Not now. I don't care for elderberry wine but new wine makers do it..Usually once, and probably dislike the taste like I do. We hear a name and become enamored with the whole idea. I used to sell a fair amount of staghorn sumac and some named varieties like "gro low" for landscape. The ole Xeroscape Fiasco that everyone liked the name but hated the look and what it did to their property values at resale. . Nicer alpine plant here. Pedicularis groenlandica or such spelled. Pink elephant plant. Higher elevations, wet areas and purdy.

Regular Round-up won't kill wild parsnip; it just mutates it, quite prettily, in fact. You have to use a high concentration to actually kill it. Regular Roundup or a similar wouldn't kill the cattails until the surfactant that dissolved the protective layer, then adios weeds. Eazy peazy.. Like posting picts huh? grin..

surfactant is a game changer. Never ever spray w/out it. Increases effectiveness. Your Rocky Mountain wildflowers are unbeatable. Nothing like them. i like the way they stay dormant for a long time and then BOOM

In many different parts of the state the flowers are unique and present in only those aras. Hundreds of different pentstemons from prostrate to tall and every color and every soil and water type. Amazing. Love some of the anemones.

I do have a guy up in Pennsylvania with a semi truck full of Utah septarian nodules that I need to go visit. Not sure that would be a fun trip though. Figure I'll fly up and drive a U-Haul back home.
I'd have to swing through Atlanta first with a pair of scissors to cut those apron strings that Jim is all tied up with.
Wife Unit leaves at 3am tomorrow morning for a week of the hell out of my hair vacation. Gotta be home for the next week to care for critters.
Is about time for a road trip!

Finally a coral river is do able, need 200 cu ft /sec. Looks like Wednesday next week. Been waiting since May this year. Hurricane finally pulled the moisture away and things are drying out. Gotta go when she's low, one afternoon shower in the right wrong spot and the river will refill. If you need a spot to stay I don't have to be here at the crib. Tell wife what you need and it's all yours.

I'm not heading to Pennsylvania any time soon. The septarian ain't going anywhere. It is the guy's retirement egg and he is in no hurry to sell. I'll get a U-Haul truck load of 'em someday.
Cliff said a trip up north and I couldn't come up with any other reason to go north. Da rocks be west!

James ! Once I purchased a load of firewood for 20 dollars. I could load it to the gills ! Well, at the time I did not know what poison ivy was ! I started itching, breaking out red on my arms and other parts. I went to doctor and he said it had got into my system. I took shots every day for 5 days and took pills too ! Seemed like I used a gallon of calamine. I don't even like to look at ! Scares ME !
