^^ Gotta "Like" a post about the Gators pummeling anyone! ETA: ZIP IT Michigan fans! grrrrr.....Our home opener was at noon, that just blows. At least this one is an evening game. Plenty of tailgating time to get properly enhanced for KY football.
Hmmm...Florida only opened as a 4 point favorite. Haven't paid much attention, other than the lucky hail Mary last week. Are the Gators down this year? If you tell me they are down to like 12 scholarship players for some reason (maybe a nasty flu???), I may start to get excited.

ROFL! I've already packed most of the tools, I have a rockhound hammer on the way and gloves aplenty! Packing a 3.5 foot pry bar, sledgehammer, trowel, pick and a few other odds and ends. Only one bucket, but seeing the reaction here, I might have to rent a dump truck... 😅Depending on the quality of course... LOL

Cliff my turkey roaster goes to 550 on the dial. You take the pan out and don't use it, that raises the temp about 50 degrees. If your dial doesn't go to 550 then just let it soak at its highest for a day. Yes the colors change great at that temp. Slabs better than rough. Not hot enough to knapp tho. Gotta hit 650 to get it to knapp nice. They just finished a Knappin at Roys so should have been a lot of folks digging at Nethers. The knappers don't want the same stuff as the lapidary folks. So rake around the piles around the pits. The knappers throw it up so they don't have to keep searching thru the same rocks.

orrum You're the bomb. Thank you for the great info. Great info on the knappers being there too. Roy sure is the one for that Vanport flint knapping. The kitty litter is a good idea for slowing the temp rise and fall. Bet it helps pull the moisture out too. Been learning a lot hanging out with knappers so much. grin. Gotta love those knappers.. Might be easier for Luminin to snag us a bunch of good tumble and cab material. Color and chalcedony not huge nodules works for me. Bet your knapping is coming along too. What brand is that roaster? How is the back doing?

Thanks for all the interest! Pictures will be presented and I'm picky with pretty much everything. I might pick up some of the boring rocks, but I'm hoping for colors! Thanks for the advise too! I've been reading and googling for a couple of weeks now, just hoping to get lucky with where I start digging and hit into some rich material. You might be able to get an idea of where the color and chalcedony is by walking the site and looking at the discards by each pit to decide where you want to prospect first. Better colored chips around the pit might tell you something about what is below. Probably just telling you things that you have already thought about but maybe not. We're glad that we have a member in that area. Might be able to quit the auto plant and dig full time hehehe Has a nice ring to it Luminin the mineral miner.. Great hint that Orrum put up there by reminding us that the knappers were just there and should be a lot of loose float material the knappers left. Stockpile the good stuff anf maybe have trading material for a year or so. Better grab some extra sacs, buckets or crates, Be fun to see the new thread after you get out of the bad back hospital. grin...

I'd be interested in this too. Not sure I can make it, but I'll try. Looks like it's about 7.5 hours from here. Luminin, like the others said, I would be interested if you got some of the colorful stuff. captbob, were you talking to me? Go blue!

You'll all be happy to hear that I stopped at Home Depot on the way home from work and bought 2x five gallon buckets, a six gallon bucket and a 12 gallon heavy duty tote. Maybe I'm a little better prepared now, short of that dump truck... LOL

That's a start! Yup, those tote bins are pretty cheap. Fill the buckets and take them to the tote in your vehicle. Unload and go refill the buckets.
Repeat until your tires start to go flat!
