Have to disagree with your last sentence Tommy . I love the stuff and it's not difficult at all to cut if you can handle the messiness. It's one of my favorites and takes a brilliant all-diamond polish once the initial grinding operation's completed. If you can put up with cutting Nipomo marcasite, C of S should be no problem. In fact the Nipomo stuff is much stinkier. Fair enough - I've only cut psilomelane a couple of times and it's been a few years. On top of the mess tho, I remember finding it very challenging to get all the flat spots gone and ready for polishing - maybe it was just the piece I had. Nipomo on the other hand is dirty and stinky but overall it works a lot like a plume agate agate - the biggest concerns I found is pitting in the marcasite plumes and trying not to overwork them to the point of flaking off.

I decided to go with the piece of Colbaltite that I got from rockjunquie a long time ago. I actually lost this piece for quite a while and only recently found it again. Native silver, Colbaltite.

I've cabbed psilomelane, silver in cobaltite and marcasite. I have to say that the silver inn cobaltite was the worse. It stains like crazy, makes a floating, oilyish nasty mess and is hard to polish when it starts to get so reflective you can't see what you are doing. So, Tommy- I think you did great! I love the plumes of silver/cobaltite. Looks great.

Made me start to wonder if it needed to be sealed...
