Great report! Looks like y'all had a good time, too. Love the fire pictures. Don't know why. But, I always get shot of our fire whenever we camp. LOL! Even in photos they are mesmerizing. Gotta love all the purple stuff!!! Hope you get a bunch of nice slices! Thanks for the report.

The bad thing is she wasn’t worried about the mines structural safety. She is terrified of snakes 😂 She would fling her body on mine to save me from stray bullets and such. But guess who she sent in that cave first 🙄 Here in the south I have only encountered a few snakes in the caves. They were all very lethargic and clearly didn't mean to be there. Either myself or another person in our party would always rescue them. I wonder if snakes in the high desert actually seek out caves and mines? A Utah BLM ranger told us that they look for cooler spots in the heat of the summer. Very different than around here. This is the one we ran in to in the back of a mine. The thing was so loud it sounded like a major gas leak. 20160516_121449 by James Sloane, on Flickr

Learned at a very young age which ones I could pick up to terrorize my big sister with and which ones to leave alone. I wouldn’t prefer to get bitten but wouldn’t ever kill one unless It was attached to my body.

Great haul from the Sista's. No shortage of colors. Love the maps with path colored in. Someone knows how to work a smart phone. Bet that cold kinda snuck up on you. Deserts are deceiving, hot in day and way cold at night. Dry air does that. Hope y'all had gear and cover. Looks like some miles were put on the jeep. Looks like y'all dialed in on target rocks and found other stuff as bonus. Impressive Girl Scouts with roaring fire. Bet it is nice under those clear skies.
Each time you head out there you will learn more. It takes time to find where the treasures are. Thanks for posting photos !

That’s one reason we spent so much on checked luggage. Winter clothes weigh more and are bulkier than summer. But that high cost with adding the hotel room, Con has agreed to buy us a sho nuff Rockhounding Pop-Up camper!! I spent months reading and targeting specific sites, indeed. Way to much driving though. I’ll plot our course better next time. It’s worth putting in the effort and time finding new goodies and having awesome adventures!! I’m coming back your way or fantastic5 ‘s Oct 21.

Have you looked into the pull behind off road campers ? Check out Oregon Teardrop and similar. They are rugged and small. Can be towed behind 4WD easily to your rock hunting locations. Lots of companies making them, becoming popular. Got heavy duty axles so you can load them up with rock. Even better if you can load a small trail bike on front hitch section to scoot around, like a small Honda 100. They sleep 2, many have heat/air. Been thinking about building one.
Google 'off road camper' and check out images. Or you can put a big camper shell on that big Dodge truck. Save you that 1 to 2 hour trip back to the hotel on BLM lands every day.

Me down in S Georgia. Quality Inn. Coral trip. That tropical front is going to hit Sunday. River is too high to find the good stuff. Explored way down the river. Had to bring a bottle of gasoline to get back to boat ramp.
No exceptional finds. Nothing like Utah. Got some decent coral geodes, will not know how good till they hit the rock saw. Wednesday was chilly. Put the boat in the water and parked the truck. Got back to the ramp and the boat floated away. Had to go swimming lol. Brrrrr cold start.

Hopefully you got warmed up quick. But a cold day on the river is MUCH better than a day at work!

jamespOh My now that’s one way to get you up an alert!! Did you forget your doc lines 😂🙈 I’ve actually been looking at the off road little pop ups You are so right about saving hours of driving time getting to and from civilization. For Christmas I’m getting a new 16 or 18” slab saw so in April (our anniversary ) He’s getting me (us) a pop up 🙊 My Very Own pop up “RITZ”!!!! Sorry your weather hasn’t been kind. The weather in Utah wasn’t kind to us the last 2 days! But... We got to play in the SNOW IN PARK CITY!!! That was fun!! Con probably shit when he saw the credit card bill for that day of fun. The shopping was top notch! We’ve decided to go back skiing there in December.

From 11AM with sun shinning the water was inviting fantastic5. 84 to 87F. I hopped shoals going way downstream thinking the added river level would make pulling the boat upstream past the shoals easier. Nothing further from the truth. It was all I could do to pull the boat upstream on 2 of the shoals. The current kicked my butt. Had I loaded with rocks it would have been worse. That was Wednesday. Today Friday. 3 day aching body parts this morning lol. It makes sense to do overnight from bridge 376 to bridge 31. Do the downstream take out trick. Easy going downstream, brutal going back up. Is a Catch 22. Mandates overnights to enjoy the trip. However, there is a shoal 2 miles upstream from bridge 31 that is likely impassable with a Jon boat. I may do the sand ramp at Redland today. Not sure. It is about 10 miles upstream from bridge 376. Or may pack up and head home. Depends if I take a pain pill between now and check out lol. Rooms double in price Friday And Saturday, that is a new addition.
