Lots of ideas here! rockpickerforever The only problem that I would personally have with sending off my next batch of tumbling material is that I don't have any picked out. I go through the barrels each week, some material graduates, some goes back in and then I'll add whatever I have laying around of similar hardness to fill the vacated space. I'm still new lol, I haven't put that much thought or planning into it yet. TByrd and fernwood the accessory idea is neat, but might not benefit everyone and would take up a portion of the box that could maybe be better used by great rocks. Grit especially can take up a lot of room. Finished pieces are a cool idea for cabbers, but less so I think for tumblers. At least for me, I'd rather get some cool rough to work vs a finished stone. fernwood I think your right to ask what people are interested in, that'll be the fastest way to determine what will be the best course of action.

jakesrocks that's a generous offer, thank you. If I do end up starting it, slabs will be greatly appreciated!

Cody Luminin thanks for taking the reigns. I know you're getting a lot of good ideas tossed around and more to come but as the project leader feel free to pick the one you think has the best chance of success for the most people and just go with it. When I was still working my boss loved to take a good idea and open it up for discussion between the various departments and without fail it would get so convoluted with special requests that it was no longer feasible or never launched, or was short lived if it did. We called paralysis by analysis. Whichever way you decide count me in - I do a little of everything rock related (except carving) so I can adapt. If you need more rocks in the initial box let me know or just add me on the list.

Agree with Tommy. As the saying goes...Too many cooks spoil the pot. TAke all the input received, then decide the best initial route. Have a feeling this might develop into a great traveling box, which can be expanded to several, eventually. Your project. Do not try to please everyone at first. Go with the majority and your gut. I have huge inventory of tumbling material and also some smaller cabbing rough and preform cabs. Mostly Jaspers, fossils, granites and "lava bombs". Could provide some items from Wisconsin for the initial box and would participate in the traveling box.

Yeah, don't listen to everybody else, just go 50/50 on slabs and rough.

Darn it, just voted & I see the 50/50 box is in the lead. Just want to take a moment to ask everyone “What’s the name of this Forum?” GRIN

I'm going to give the survey at least 24 hours, so about 3 more hours. And then a bit more as I'll be asleep lol. From there I'll draft up the final plan, rules and guidelines and start taking names probably tomorrow sometime. I'll take names for about a week, should be plenty of time for everyone to sign-up.
This is what I have so far:
• Members that wish to participate must have at least 50 posts and have been members of the forum for at least 3 months, less of either and they'll need at least 3 qualified members to vouch for them. • A minimum of 5 people (not including myself) and a maximum of 15 per round. • If you are going to be traveling or otherwise busy when your turn comes around, please let me know here so we can move you down the list. • Each member should take a picture of what they remove from and add to the box and post those images here. • This is not an appropriate place to swap good for bad. Please don't dump your duds here. • Please try to add an equal quantity to that of which you take. Don't be greedy, but also don't stuff the box so full that we'll have to worry about switching to a LFRB and thus cost members more than they expected. • Please don't take all of a material, if there are two chunks of Lapis Lazuli rough, feel free to take one, but leave the other for another member. If there is only one piece, feel free to claim it. • Once you've finished swapping, please CAREFULLY pack the materials into a new MFRB, use plenty of tape and get it mailed off to the next member quickly. You remember what it was like waiting? • Each member will pay the postage to send the box to the next waiting member, the box will be a Medium Flat Rate Box, so it will cost $13.60 to ship. This will include a free tracking number which can be found on the receipt. Please send that to both me and the member that you addressed it to. If any of these rules are broken, you may be banned from future Traveling Rock Boxes.
Most of these came from the previous rounds, I've changed a few and added a couple points. The biggest change is maybe the rule that states what qualifies members to sign up. It was 50 post and 6 months, but that would disqualify me lol. Technically I STILL don't have even 3 months here. I figure there aren't too many people out there that'd stick around for 3 months and have at least 50 posts here that would rip us off, maybe one month and 20 posts. I could be wrong, I've been told I'm too trusting before. But Benefit of the Doubt, until something happens or someone points something out to me, I'll stick to my logic.
Thanks everyone!
~Cody

The only part of the rules I do not agree with is disqualifying yourself. You are taking the initiative to do this. Did the homework on researching previous traveling boxes. I officially vote for allowing you to participate. Tommy, do you agree that Luminin should be allowed to participate, even though he does not meet his established qualifications for participation?

Just voted and noticed there are only 10 total votes. Wondering if this could become an Official RTH poll with the voting as a pinned post. Am sure there are more than 10 people out there who would be interested. They might not have seen this post or how to vote. Just thought to consider making the voting official RTH and listed as such.

Good lord, is that a question you have to ask? He is not disqualifying himself.
