I haven't been cutting much recently. Lots going on in my personal life plus travel and now, very hot weather is keeping me out of the shop. But I've done a few new pieces as well as finishing up some previously uncompleted projects. Death Valley Plume - Wish I had lots more of this but I have only a couple of slabs. A few pits opened up on this cab so I used a little filler and it came out great. Charoite - This is a recut of a misshapen cab I bought at a show. Crown of Silver Psilomelane - A favorite material of mine. Badger Den Jasper - This subtle pastel-hued material is new to me, and I like it a lot. Vulture Mountain “Shattuckite” - This cab doesn't contain much Shattuckite. It's a test stone before I tackle some killer slabs of this material. Victoria Stone - My first attempt with this. I only have a couple of pieces and wish I'd bought more when I could have. Moroccan Agate - This stuff is very nice and has many color/pattern variations. Moroccan Agate Agate Creek, Queensland - I have a bunch of this to cab. It's a favorite material. Amethyst Duo - I'll be doing some jewelry work soon and these will be ring stones set in silver. Thanks in advance for looking.

Very nice variety. I too like the badger den jasper. The amethyst duo have a beautiful deep color. Should make spectacular rings.

They're all beautiful. Hard to pick a favorite, but I'm leaning toward the psilomelane. I'm a sucker for druzy pockets.

hard to find good amethyst without fractures these days, very nice cabs, all of them. Never heard of Badger Den Jasper before. KD

I bought a kilo of rough several years ago and I've been able to find quite a few clean pieces. Badger Den is a new find in the McDermitt area. I'm not sure how much is on the market yet.

I love the Death Valley Plume. Rocks with schizophrenia are cool.

Beautiful set. I like the yellow Moroccan Agate the best I think - yellow and pink together are pretty. But also all the rest!

Thanks for all the nice comments folks. It's always interesting to learn how others react to various cab materials and shapes. I appreciate the input.

I lucked into finding a few slabs recently at a local rock show but most is the plain yellow. It'll make some nice cabs but will need a bit of stabilizing in some spongy areas.

Imori? There is a full boule on eBay now of the black. $6000 and a half boulder of dk green $2500 Yeah, a rockhound neighbor recently showed me his stash of original full boules. He has at least a half-dozen in various colors. I didn't buy it when it was reasonably priced because it's a man-made stone and I prize the creations of nature. I think there's irony in the fact that now this so-far un-reproducible man-made product has achieved "investment" status. So has the original Kashan synthetic ruby and a few other unique man-made gems. The old supply vs. demand formula. The GIA has now even decided to stretch its grading process to man-made diamonds. I often reflect back on the late Shel Silverstein's prophetic poem: "Everything's gonna' be plastic by and by."

I'm hoping to get a gram to have Don do his IR spectroscopy on it. Have any little cutoffs?
