24" would be over 500# everything would likely fail. Lol
12" is over 100#. That is 33+# per head. Not too bad, probably...

Interested in selling any of those core samples? ;-) Always looking for more material. Most of them are pretty bland looking, if you're in my neck of the woods you're welcome to grab a couple, my wife would appreciate it. Lol

I'm in central Texas, but I have Marine Corps buddies everywhere :-) You say some look bland, however I made a limestone sphere from random pond rock and it turned out pretty well. Gonna have to change my quote to "give ugly rocks a chance".

I agree that some rocks that don't look like much, can become quite stunning once polished. Love the quote!

After I got a truckload of core samples, I wondered what I could do with them. I probably should have thought about it first, but then I probably wouldn't have made my machine. I made a jig to cut the core samples into sphere preforms with my tile saw. After making a bunch of 2" spheres, I started making larger spheres from local stones I've collected. This is the latest. It's a 6" sphere. View AttachmentI got a box with some core samples from an old geology prof near me. I'm kicking myself for chucking a couple of them, because the one I threw in the tumbler is coming out really nice! Never thought about cabbing or spheres from it. If you're ever looking to dispose of some, I'd be interested! That sphere is amazing!!
