I did. I found the flattireite by doing a lot of research and going on foot until I found the hill we went over and I thought "Oh man, you gotta be shittin me!" 80 yards from the spot where I was up on blocks.

I did. I found the flattireite by doing a lot of research and going on foot until I found the hill we went over and I thought "Oh man, you gotta be shittin me!" 80 yards from the spot where I was up on blocks. I won't say it was fun (just kidding!), but it was certainly an adventure! Lucky for Mark it didn't happen when he was by himself. Always gotta have a backup vehicle. Only three people besides Mark were present. If it wasn't for him taking it so well, and me having a camera (and using it!), no one would have heard about it. Seems like it was just yesterday, although it was almost three years ago. Mark K , Diane drocknut , Bob, Lucy and I were trying to find this location Diane had told us about. We had earlier stopped at the Roadrunner's (Q rock club) workshop, and Diane got some sketchy directions from a member. We could not find that location to save our lives, but we knew we had to be close. We led the way, Mark brought up the rear. We stopped at one point, and got out of our vehicles and walked around (looking at the rocks on the ground, naturally!). I happened to notice the two right tires on Mark's vehicle were going flat! Not really knowing Mark that well, I didn't know how he was going to handle the situation. I was trying to decide the best way to break the news. After a little while, we decided to mosey on down the road, see if we could find our location. Time was up! I told him we'd have to do something about those TWO flat tires before we could continue. He stayed calm, handled it very well. Didn't even yell or cuss, lol. Well, Mark and Bob got his truck jacked up and the two flat tires removed from the right side. The tires went into the back of our truck, and we all drove into beautiful downtown Quartzsite to a tire shop. In no time at all, new tires were put on both rims. We drove back to where Mark's crippled truck awaited us, got the wheels put back on, and set it back on the ground. We decided to give up on our search for the rock hounding location, save it for another day. Mark wisely drove his truck back to the tire store in Q, and got two new tires put on the left side as well. The shadows were getting long, so we headed back to camp to start thinking about what was for dinner. Two flat tires Putting on the new ones Getting there I said previously that I didn't know Mark that well at the time of the great flatirite expedition. But boondocking and rock hounding are a great way to get to know people, and a lot of fun. One other thing I learned about Mark is that you don't want to be anywhere near him while he is wielding a jackhammer...

Hey its the lil yellow tire shredder!!! LOL Orrum, they didn't get shredded, just got a hole in each one. Probably caused by the same pokey thing he ran over - twice! We had gone up several almost-roads going up the hillsides, not so steep, but turning left or right at the crest of the hill. Visibility sucks when the front of your truck hood is way up in the air, and over ten feet in front of your windshield! We were fortunate to have not ran over the same pokey thing... That would have been a bad, bad thing!

Hello I am in the LA Posa West LTVA boondocking. You have to pay a small fee but dumping is included and water and trash. Plus I am walking distance to my friens The Canadians!!! Just follow the asphalt road straight ahead when it turns to dirt. My camper has either a gray Ford F150 longed 4 door or a white RZR parked out front. Call me on my cell. It's 180 dollars a month or 45 for two weeks.

I am planning on being there on 19 and 20 Jan and participating to the extent possible. I'm hoping to slide in to Desert Gardens in our camper van with or without hookups for a two night stint, but if there is no room at the "inn", I'll be foraging down the road. Its my impression from a previous year that there is always something as long as bare dirt and sunshine are acceptable. Count on me for a supply of New Mexican green chile to adorn the burgers and dogs. Tom

... there is always something as long as bare dirt and sunshine are acceptable. For us, bare dirt and sunshine are highly preferable We will be coming into Qz from the north - on hwy 95 so our first look will be at Plomosa road BLM land free camping. If that area is too condensed for us to find a good spot where our dogs can run and chase rabbits and not nuisance anyone then we'll probably move on up to the Dome Rock area. If anyone thinks they might want to join us up there hit me up for my phone number for texting.

I will be in AZ most of Feb.7-I forget the end date.
I won't be seeing most of you this year.
Scott, you and I should try to hook up and find something spectacular. Plus, I have a full gold set up now.

Scott Dome Rock would be more convient. Plomosa Rd you will have to come all the way thru town. TommyAdvice from Orrum Yes I understand what he's saying and it's true that coming through town to get to and from the freeway is a pain in the keister. We'll be coming down from hwy 40 thru Parker on 95, BUT we don't want that fact alone to cause our friends extra headache and are willing to stay at Dome Rock again - AND we can just as easily not turn off at Parker and come down into Blythe instead. We've done it before. Last year was our first time staying at Dome Rock and we were not very impressed with the location we picked - it felt like camping in a gravel parking lot adjacent to a busy road. That setup is not going to work out this year with the new dog that we don't fully trust yet. We are hoping for a better location this time and I'm not sure we'll find that at Dome Rock with the mess of campers already there it seems like the best spots are gone already - and that was last year when the weather was horrible. Blue skies this year will surely having it even more crowded? Random thoughts... When trying to get from hwy 10 to hwy 95 north of town it's easy to avoid Main street and the traffic mess together. Basically you take the Riggles exit (last exit from the west, first exit from the east) then go in a zig-zag pattern until you end up on hwy 95 north of the RV Pitstop. We did this a couple times last year when going to the Pitstop to dump and refill tanks. Plomosa via 95 is fairly easy access to the PowWow. Desert Gardens, not so much unless you follow the route above back to hwy 10.

Not to beat a dead horse but this is the best route to Plomosa road via hwy 95 N from hwy 10. Easy and smooth and almost zero traffic. Traffic is not a concern getting to Plomosa *BUT* we are getting into town early in the week so we will try to scout out the best location either there or at Dome Rock.

So then why not camp just south of town? Lots of space out there.

So then why not camp just south of town? Lots of space out there. Well we're still noobs at camping in Qz but it seems like everything south of town is connected by the freeway overpass at 95 that has no exits for unexplicable reasons and goes by Tyson Wells. That area is the epicenter of horrible traffic mid day - especially Saturday and I'd rather stay home than drive that gawd-awful stretch of road any more than humanly possible. If I've got it wrong I'm all ears so edumacate me.

Tommy go out Keuhn Rd going away from desert gardens thru Tysons Wells and straight thru the traffic light. Go straight until the asphalt road ends, it parrelels Rt 10 and turn right on a dirt road. This is Shaddam Wash. You register a ways back on the asphalt Rd. You will see the host sign. Anyway back to the right turn at the end of the rd. Just pick any place out there. You can keep going until the right, then you get far enough from the road noise. Or go south of Q on 95 and there is camping on your right several miles out toward Yuma.
