Thanks Kim, that's nice of you to say. I wasn't trying to be too hard on myself, but we are our own worse critics. I guess that is true. I have given a lot of thought to the way I think....I think?...hehe. Well, I thought I did. Anyway, I am stuck in a symectrical fog. I don't think I can get away from it, but it's OK. Thanks again for the kind words.
And Banjo, I just saw your pic....WOW, that is sweet! Great job. At first I thought the lightning bolts were part of the stone, but they are part of the wrap? What are they? Nice work buddy, cheers, Don

The photo was an after thought, and the lightening was an after though, as was the vignette background. Who knows what would have happened had I actaully thought about it before hand. One question though- I usually start with 3 or 4 wires together and band them. Anybody have any ideas on holding these together so they don't twist and clump the row of wires together while you try to get the winds even to band them up? Besides getting a decent finish this is my biggest problem. Thanks!

Someone had mentioned using crafting wire his wife had. Well I use 20 gauge color coated copper crafting wire, and brass crafting wire. The ones that look like the wires were wrapped with a larger wire, I actually used jump rings that were put together and then slightly flattened to make an oval.
Yes I do feel free when I do my wrappings, I have found that if I try to push the wire in to forms that it doesn't want to go then I wind up with something I don't like and I have to start all over again. No two wrappings will ever be alike, some may be similar but not allike. I don't think I would ever be able to do the exact same wrap even if I had uniform stones.
Thanks for the complaments.
Banjo that wrapping is absolutely gorgous. I too am curious about the lightening bolt did you do that or did that happen when you scanned your piece?

Banjo, there are two things that you can do to keep the wires together in a row. (1) Medical Forceps, (2) Tape, and (3) my favorite Jump Rings and use them as part of your design. Yes the rings have to be small. It is the smallest mandrel used in the wire coiling jig that you can find at Hobby Lobby, don't ask me what size, because I don't know.

Those are beautiful Kim. You did a great job.
How long does it take you to do your pieces?

each one i do gets easier but it still takes me awhile with each piece. i can work better after everyone goes to bed so i'm not interrupted with "i want milk", the door, the phone, the dog wanting to go out, other dogs wanting to come in but the cats like that time best of all too and try to help me work by getting in my box of supplies or batting at the wires while i'm trying to wrap. it's kinda like trying to work in the middle of the monkey exhibit at the zoo. lots of helpers! you set something down and when you go to pick it back up - it's gone! my child is a queen at it. she'll take the stone i had picked out and replace it with something else. when i tell her to bring it back she comes back with what i asked for plus 5 other things i didn't know she took!

my biggest thing that i am having problems with is how to start it, i tried to put it around the stone like some of kims, but can't make them stay on, maybe, trying to be smart, my small wire is too small, or should I find the square wire? I don't know, most of my rocks are small so I don't feel right with larger wire, but that may be what I need

If at all possible start with a larger stone so you get used to the wrapping and then gradually work your way down to the smaller ones. That is what I did.

I haven't check out this thread since all the new pics have been added! Man, you guys are really turning out some NICE stuff! Lots of inspiration for when I get some rocks finished and have some to wrap!
Don, you grandaughter is a cutie pootie! She looks about the same age as my nephew's little girl - 3 - and I know what ya' mean about catching them when they are not moving. The only time Alyssa isn't moving is when she's asleep!
