Made this cab this morning and could not wait to get it in a setting. Just about out of silver now so I just sent all my scraps to RIO for some credit toward some new stuff. I took some process photos just for fun. Basic materials to start Bezel joint soldered with hard solder and bezel to back with medium solder After I cut as close as I can with sheet metal sheers I use this cutter to lessen the amount file work This is after using that burr. Not much left to file. After a few minutes of filing Now it's time to cut out my Michigan outline. The bail is a segment of patterned wire. First time I have used this but I like it on this one. Easy solder for this join. The mess from making this one pendant. I do not have a space dedicated to silver work so this all has to be cleaned up and put away each time But hey it was worth it right? This one is 30x40 so it is the largest I have done. Thanks for looking Chuck

Definitely worth it, at least from where I'm sitting. I didn't have to do a thing! I really like the patterned bail. The whole thing looks really professional.

That's really very nice! I like the strip bail, too. You did the stone proud. I love your process pictures, too, but the messy work area is great. I should show mine sometime. LOL!

Most people in this section understand the process and mess but I thought some newbies may be entertained by it. I just merged my last three Petoskey pendants into one photo. I now realize I am a minimalist when it comes to jewelry. Simple groove wraps and simple bezels are just my thing. Jugglerguy might like this photo too .... Chuck

Those Petoskeys look nice in a pendant. After I cut as close as I can with sheet metal sheers I use this cutter to lessen the amount file work This is after using that burr. Not much left to file. Seems like that’d be a lot easier on a cabbin’ machine with an old 100 hard wheel.

Stopped by RIO on my way home and you can buy their scrap for spot price. You are limited to what they have in the bucket. It end cuts off if orders. I make sure there is no wire. You can request but what ever ga. Is there that is what you get. I saved 3 dollars an ounce. Here is what a hundred OZ looks like.

I didn't know how to edit in my phone. I saw my back plate close to the bezel and if for some reason I got away where just a little touch up with the Foredom won't do I will use a little grinder used for sharping knives.

Thanks toiv0 - My scrap I send in is mostly small wire scraps from wire wrapping. Of course there are also the scrapped silversmithed pendants I have ruined. Getting better but still learning. Getting bails centered on ovals or teardrops is still always a crap shoot. I hate getting all the way to the point where the bail is soldered on then realizing it is off center when I flip it over. I can't believe the amount of silver you order. I think I have only gone through 2 pieces of 4" x 6" back plate total. I think I figured I get about 10-12 pendants per piece that size. Chuck

Well, Chuck Drummond Island Rocks, you sucked me over here, as I wanted to see what you did. Very, very nice. In all actuality, I was also looking forward to seeing the back with MI cut out. I was curious to see how you finished it and if there were any other hallmarks of sorts. I think the state cutout is a neat idea, in and of itself. Beautiful pendant overall. Dave

Ditto on the cleverness of the state cutout on the back. What a great idea, not too hard & especially relevant with all the focus on 'local' stuff these days.

Beautiful eye-catching work Chuck. Your skills have way improved. The silver blends well with the Petoskey.

Drummond Island Rocks I revisited this post, just couldn't help it. I have a question about the process (still learning the smithing). Do you file back the top edge of your bezel to thin it, or just go straight to burnishing? I've seen it done both ways on some tutorials. My William Holland instructor did not teach filing, and I really like the way your bezel meets the stone at the top.
