The Chinese millefiori is my favorite, looks like candy. The color pattern at the ends is psychedelic!

The scrap from Janke had a half dozen end piece cut offs of lamp shades made out of that purple. His glass is insane. Very few vase shards though. Next time he mixes a batch I may ask him if he will make a large quicky unshaped container to sell out of the leftover. Before I purchase more of the China bulk bead glass I need to see if I can fuse it first as it appears to have some fusion issues at color bands. It may be cullet waste that had been cooled too fast. The colors are odd and rare, no telling what those guys use for coloring agents.

Don't let them run me off Melissa as I don't tumble rocks any more. This a rock tumbling forum, not glass. What the hay, they allow rock lickers I can't be too far off subject. I did finally buy some new toys like a glass kiln and another tile saw. Having fun, all that counts.

Glass is made from rock dust. Silica and limestone.

Glass is made from rock dust. Silica and limestone. Ah, so man made rock lol. I'm safe . It is alkaline fernwood. I see you mentioned limestone. Open the tumbler barrel and a big wiff of alkaline air rises. Hard on skin too.

I used to have a source for millefiori rods. They were about 12" in length, and reasonably priced, if one purchased 12. Just checked and they are no longer in business. About 15 years ago, the cost was $20.00 for the 12 rods. They were about 1/2" in diameter.
Check around. there has to be someone out there selling the rods. Figured the 1/2" diameter would allow for tumbling.
Thank you for reminding me of my past and also reminding me to think outside of the norm. I love the adventure you have shared here.

I live just south of the warehouse district. Looked thru local listings and found a Hollander Glass warehouse not 8 miles away sorta in the red light district lol. The area is not known for shoppers to say the least but darn if they did not have a retail outlet in the warehouse and classrooms for fusing glass. The selection is off the chart as the warehoused glass is out in the open for shoppers to select from. Like 4000 colors in 2' x 4' sheets(bit big for jewelry). Spectrum brand glass is shutting down, probably the best and most varied fusing glass known. Again, people are no longer displaying so much glassware anymore. Kilns, glassware, glass outlets etc is all being sold or shutdown. The millefiori rod they had was lame. They don't even have millefiori over 1/4" and it was 2 color junk. What you described would have gone home. The sales gal was all about fusing and did not seem to have a clue why I was breaking up vases and glass bricks lol. She looked at me funny when I asked for a brick mold. I'll go back when there are more customers in there so I can wonder around brain storming. They do have a large inventory of Spectrum glass but it is being bought off as it is one of the last stock piles in the country. And a kiln that would fuse 48" x 48" sheets of glass. And a museum on the walls of awesome fused art. But the glass blowers have far superior lapidary machine shops full of large industrial machines. Those guys are the glass animals in this town.

Those came out really nice. Bought the top section of a roll-around mechanic's tool box to start separating these glass tumbles James. Vases, my brick fusions and plates can be separated in distinct tumbled lots. So looking forward to organizing the tumbles. Looks like 2", 3.5" and 4.5 inch square nursery plant pots will be used as they fit in the drawers. Pulled a few from the rotary that are ready to move to the next step. Not shown are remnants of a dozen other vases in production. So sorting becomes an issue without open top viewable storage. Plastic bags was NOT working.
