This nephrite is from my region, a teal green, cut in a mobius style of my design, totally as art, and nothing more.

mickmarg - Awesome carving! I love the 3D Mobius woven look. What's your process for carving? Can you show pictures of your setup? Lynn

Thanks for the great comments, I have carved quite a few in similar designs to this, jade, opal, fluorite, rhodonite, and a jade dagger with a mobius cut into the handle and another in Lightning ridge black opal.

Where's the nephrite from, and how do you polish it?

Fantastic work. The carving is one of the most intricate I have ever seen.

I'm no carver , but I'm curious , do you start this with grinding wheels and than use a dermal tool or something similar to finish it out ?

Thanks for the good comments, the nephrite jade is from Australia, like most carvers I start with a slab or piece of stone that I think will work for a design either in its natural shape or slabbed to suit, I then rough carve using either a foredom flex shaft, or high speed air tool, hand sand with either diamond or silicone carbide to smooth and remove the scratches, the stone dictates what I use, I use both diamond and oxide polishes, depending on the gem.

Great work. The contours are just amazing, and I've always thought that Australian jade is beautiful. A lot more translucent than most of what we have in California.
You hand-sand? You are a patient man!
