Any idea how to rough up the part you hold onto without making it look bad? If there was a way to keep half of the pick shaped but semi-rough and only polish the middle to tip half . . . How ‘bout . . . a) just finish the pick to a satin finish, 500 maybe? b) tape/mask the top after 500, then polish in tumbler c) tape/mask the top after 500, polish the tip on a wheel d) polish as usual, tape the tip, then rough the top on a piece of sandpaper e) steal a rosin bag off the pitcher’s mound

MrP . Can I post a photo here of the one you sent that I have been using? I roughed up the groove a little and it works great. Yes. Sounds like I need to put the grove in after the polish. Thanks for the feedback...................MrP

I use a convex wheel to put an elongated divot where a person's thumb contacts the pick. I put it in before I tumble the pick. Feels good to me but I don't play so have no real info..........................MrP What sort of wheel? Like a cabbing wheel? I thought about using a ball shaped burr on a Dremel, but I don't know if I could control it enough to center it properly. Maybe in a drill press I could. Jugglerguy I use a Jade carver wheel. It is a solid wheel, which I didn't realize at the time I bought it, so it is a heavy wheel but works fine on the Genie....................MrP

Here's my roll- Shape and low-dome both sides on flat lap 100 then 180 and then into the vibe starting @ 320, then 600, and then AO polish. Afterward, I sort- some to get drilled for jewelry, and the thinner ones I re-dop and then flat lap just the center of the pick on both sides w/ 180 mesh. Put another way. I flatten out the dome @ 180. One day I'll get some pics... The whole process produces the thinnest pick I can make, holdabilty is good due to flattening and rough up of center, the highly polished edges glide across my guitar strings and I enjoy the crisper tones. Drawbacks- still no flex, and even the Brazilian agates I make them from will break if dropped properly. Had a couple musician friends try them, feedback was they are more of a novelty than a practical tool. Who wants to keep spending $25-30. every time one drops?

Thanks for the feedback and advice everyone. The slipperiness issue is frustrating. On one hand, I should be doing something to make them more grippy. On the other hand, what I like about these (not being a guitar player) is how shiny and nice the rocks are. It seems like you can’t have both.

Here is the pick I altered from MrP. Since it was just for me, the roughness is not what would be expected for sale, but is working great for me. Some pickers might need grooves with roughness on each side. I am lovin' this pick, not only for play-ability, but also for the spiritual connection.
