Looks like the great NE is leading. The most expensive place in the country to ship freight to. The only area in the country whom reclassifies freight at their own will to a more expensive freight category. Mafia influence ? Last year Washington state was #1 buyer. You folks from Washington pyromaniacs ? #2 was Massachusetts because of some Google ad. California leads in complaints, not that there are many. fussy fussy Excepting Bellevue, Washington, that community for some reason buys a lot and almost every one of them complains. Let me guess, Bellevue is home of the rich folks ? NJ/NY/Chicago always in a hurry. You guys just chill. Add Florida to that list. Probably the ones that moved from NY/NJ lol. Carolinas, Ga, Bama, TN the friendliest of course. Minnesotans will order when it's 30 below zero(for an igloo ?) and must be Eskimo or Norwegian. Colorado always asks about converting to gas burners perhaps to avoid pollution. Idaho likes gas too because of threat of fire due to dry foliage and local fire ordinances. ayydahooh, they tear that word up bad Texans get big pits of course. Georgian's pick up here and save on freight. Not on map. Average customer med/high income aged 40 with 2 kids and hot wife. Most are not from Georgia but transplants. ![](https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1756/28764081458_7102114dc5_b.jpg) ![](https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1751/40829292010_9b60179afb_o.png)

Go Jim! Vera interesting post. Haven't heard much about fire pits since you dove into glass srtwork. My buddy Alan comes over and makes me pay him to do the welding. So time was made for the glass. He gets a substantial part of the profits though. Sales are up like 50% over last year so things are still buzzing along Bill. I did manage to buy a whole bunch of steel stock before the price of steel started going up this year. I'd go broke selling glass ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) , must be the 'art work' lol.

Hey, great stats and observations. Some Norwegians crossed the boarder into WI. Fire pits and winter grilling are a long time tradition in these parts.

We grill marshmallows/'smores on our one foot square hibachi that we got as a wedding present 54 years ago. It has a few broken parts, but it does the job. Yum!

Busiest season for us southerners is Memorial Day, the 4th, and Labor Day when it is 130F outside lol. Makes no sense, I guess it increases dehydration for efficient beer consumption. Sitting around the fire pit subzero sounds good but it rarely keeps you warm lest you have whale blubber overcoats. Wisconsin, Minnesota all cold resistant folks. Coooold blooded folks.

Can't compete with sentimental fire pits Pat. One square foot probably gets the job done in sunny California. I have shipped a few pits into the back country of North California over towards Nevada and wow does that cost a lot. I think they send it to San Jose and then transfer it to a pup truck and head back east to the hill country. You have been married 20 years longer than us. How did y'all do it ? Is your husband healed, didn't he have a foot injury that gave him problems ? I know he is in excellent shape.

Great map! "Minnesotans will order when it's 30 below zero(for an igloo ?) and must be Eskimo or Norwegian" That's Billy's neck of the woods ; ) North of the Mason Dixon line is too cold. Much less south Minnesota. Billy toiv0 is a Viking, resilient to super cold temps. The Mason Dixon line is a freight division zone. Many carriers transfer to western and northern carriers at the Mason Dixon. I don't think it has anything to do with the civil war but with warm weather trucks and cold weather trucks. Or western trucks designed for climbing the Rockies. My main carrier is Southeastern Freight. They do the Mason Dixon + Texas. They hand off to Duie Pyle for NE, Dayton for north central, and Oak Harbor for the westerners. Called partner carriers. Freight is totally complicated. Really.

I just bought a pile of rocks, george west wood. maybe 5000 lbs plus. How would be the best way to get it home mr. jamesp? Or just get a Penske and drive it? I'd buy and fill two bulk bags, set them on 2 pallets at a location that has a fork lift. 2500 pounds per pallet. Call a freight company and have them ship them home. You will have to pay for a lift gate for the freight company to set them off curbside at your home. Or a U-Haul cube van going one way. That way you could drop them closer to your rock pile instead of having them out on the curb. ETA : If you have a truck or trailer that can haul 2500 pounds you could have the freight company take it to Minnesota and "hold at closest freight dock" till you pick up. There are usually dock fees for this. Does the company you work for have an account with a freight company ? They charge much more if you have no account. you can use freightqwuote.com to get quotes, may help decide about a cube van rental.

It goes down to 10F in Georgia occasionally. About 10 minutes and you're near death. No way dude. It cost about $230 average on medium to large pits. If under 150 pounds much cheaper because they can go Fed Ex ground.
